- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2014Very impressive lens. Compact and sharp enough wide open. I'm not a pixel peeper, I don't shoot wall charts and examine them at 100%. In real world use it is a lot of fun to use. A really nice focal length for general use (45mm in FF/35mm equivalent). F2 allows for a good amount of light in. It produces very nice out of focus blur.
Samsung is impressive in their efforts with the NX system. They have a very nice lineup of lenses available, and they are producing more. The NX system will give you this and 2 other pancake lens options, all of them 2.8 or faster (a 20mm and a 16mm) Gives you good options to stay compact if you have an NX body.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2015A wonderful all around "walking" lens! I have this mounted on my Samsung NX300.
Pros:
Very sharp pictures
f2 aperture: Beautiful bokeh
Fairly fast auto focus
Compact profile with the camera. Very easy to slip in and out of a large pocket or bag, on the fly.
Wonderful to do street photography and even some portrait photography.
Cons:
Auto focus is fairly fast, but can be confused/slow at times.
It is a pleasure to shoot with this lens and the NX300.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2016It's a compact, bright, sharp lens; but I had to send mine back after 3 weeks because both manual and auto focus suddenly stopped working. No focusing at all! I updated the camera's firmware as suggested by the manufacturer, but that didn't help. I'd like to think I just got a bad sample...but the lens is so extremely lightweight that I'm skeptical of its durability. I didn't re-order--in part because when I compared images taken with this lens to those taken with the 20-50mm kit lens that came with my Samsung NX3000, it was hard to see any difference in sharpness. The kit lens was also very good. The main advantage of the 30mm lens appeared to be its wider aperature for better low-light performance. But the 20-50mm lens also did well in low light, up to at least ISO 1600.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2013This is a ridiculously good lens period. I got mine from a seller here on Amazon for just $210 in perfect condition. He threw in a great UV filter and leather case as well. Anyways! I've been using the NX 20-50mm kit lens that comes with the Samsung NX1000. That lens works perfectly fine good detail. But this lens in the right hands absolutely blows that lens away in low lighting. The f/2 aperture takes in a lot of light making any scene crystal clear even at full crop. It's also half the size of the kit lens and makes my camera feel like a point & shoot it's so light now. I can also fit it in a pocket with the lens still on it now. Except for being a prime lens which means you have to move closer to your subjects since there's no zoom, there really isn't any reason a NX camera owner shouldn't have this lens.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2016I have a Samsung NX3000, and it is my first interchangeable lens camera, which I bought to take better everyday and travel photos. This is the first lens I purchased after the kit lens at the advice of friends who have mirrorless cameras.
I've been very happy with the quality of pictures it takes, and while I'm still learning, I found the focus ring very responsive and easy for a beginner to get the hang of. I would say it's actually easier to go from using point-and-shoots to using the NX3000 with this lens than with the included kit zoom lens (20-50mm). The latter just had more unfamiliar parts, including a locking mechanism that takes some getting used to, where this lens was much easier to just put it on and just get out there and start shooting.
The only reason this gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because one of the reasons I purchased the NX3000 was for the 180-degree articulating screen for "selfies". The NX3000 self-shot features include face detection, wink shutter, smile shutter, and "beauty shot". While I don't use this feature frequently, when I do use it, I find these features to be surprisingly less gimmicky than they sound. (Except "beauty shot" which basically is just face blurring??. . .)
My experience has been that when the camera is in self-shot mode, i.e. the screen is flipped 180-degrees to face the subject, face detection is way more picky using this lens than either (a) using the camera with the kit zoom lens in self-shot mode, or (b) using this lens in normal shooting mode. If the lighting isn't just right, or the subject is not exactly the right distance away, the face detection won't kick in and then the other features it incorporates, i.e. wink shutter and smile shutter, won't work either.
Either it's a a hardware/software issue, or a knowledge gap issue on my part, but it was perplexing to be wondering why it seemed easier to take a selfie with the kit zoom lens than with this.
It's not a deal breaker by any means -- the pictures it takes are beautiful, including selfies. Just can't always rely on the software helping with the latter.

revision: Lens is now junk. The focus by wire system will no longer work. Don't waste your money on this less than completely ready for prime time lens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una joya pequeñita
Una maravilla de objetivo. Ligero y se nota la diferencia de tener puesto este al kitero. El único rollo es que no tenga el botón fn pero por o demás lo considero fundamental en la nx

5.0 out of 5 stars Consiglio questa lente

5.0 out of 5 stars Great option for closer range shooting
hmm, lighting can be a bit tricky with this lens, as long as you are not shooting even vaguely towards a light source you get lovely results, wonderful sharpness in foreground and smooth but graduated blurring going out which can produce great pics, but if you get the angle of lighting wrong it can really darken the subject more than intended. basically it exaggerates tha gradiant of blurring you'd normally expect in the shot with a longer lens camera to produce a really great effect, but its a bit unforgiving of mistakes lining up the shot. but yes, it really is lightweight - you don't know you are carrying it around at all.
it really does produce wonderful intimate shots for close range work with a ten feet distance and blurring off into the background in a way that the longer lenses don't.
*quote from blurb* "its slim size makes it the perfect general-purpose lens for photo buffs who need flexibility and portability"
that's marketing speak, its portable because its so small, but its not a general purpose lens at all (not to detract from it since i have this attached for most closer range shooting). For a general purpose lens you'd probably stick with the 20 - 50 mm that comes with the camera. however if you opt for the 50- 200 lens as well you will probably hardly use the 20 - 50 that comes with the camera as the two of them pretty much take care of most distances that you could want to shoot. (only exceptions being that the 30 mil pancake cannot use the software options that come inbuilt with the camera due to its limited focus (no i-auto) so you'd switch if needed).
price - i bought it when on cashback offer with samsung, so you might have to be a keen photographer to fork out quite so much as the 220+ pricepoint this normally sells for. but i would say its probably worth it as the photos shot with the nx1000 i've been using have been all i've hoped for.
