Sheesh!! I was hoping for some fireworks when that firmware version 32 arrives from Nintendo. More than a hundred million Switches will just spontaneously go up in smoke, which in my calculation will occur at around the year 2079.

I'd suspect even some kapton tape and perhaps a thermal pad on top would be enough to wedge it against the backplate and keep it stable. You won't get a house destroying fire out of the Switch battery but you could get some nice fireworks and burned carpet/countertop if dead shorted.

Open each graphic in your image editing program (I use Fireworks), and don't mess with the canvas size. You can change anything else, but not the size. Keep in mind that the Homebrew Channel automatically puts all needed text for button actions on the buttons itself, so putting text on your buttons isn't necessary and may create a cluttered look.
