Crafting can be a great holiday activity to do with your kids. You can gather the family together and spend an afternoon or two putting together some fun and creative ornaments to decorate this year’s Christmas tree. Older kids especially love to do crafts and most often have more advanced crafting skills that allow them to take on more extensive projects. We have assembled here some great crafts that your older kids can take on but be sure to still provide adult supervision where needed. These crafts can work well as a classroom activity or just for fun family time. Here are some ideas for Christmas ornament crafts for older kids-

This ornament makes a pretty diorama in miniature with this Christmas scene. You can choose to do a traditional nativity scene or a winter scene and the end result will be a craft worth keeping.

What you will need:

•Egg shaped paper mache ornament with front cut out
•Medium and small trees
•Wooden house (your craft store will stock various small houses for the diorama scene)
•Medium craft stars (small wooden ones work well)
•Cotton balls
•Tacky glue
•Paint in various colors
•Glitter paint
•Paintbrush
•Wax paper

How to make it: Lay out wax paper to completely cover your workspace. Paint the entire ornament inside and outside. Let dry competely. After the ornament is dry then repaint the entire inside and outside of the ornament with glitter paint. Let dry completely. Paint the house, star, and trees if needed. Add glitter paint to the star, if you wish. Let dry completely. Using craft glue attach the house, star, and trees on the inside of the ornament. Gently pull the cotton ball apart and place some of the cotton around the base of the tree and house to look like snow. Glue the “snow” in place. Now your ornament is finished and ready to hang on the tree.
