How the media played a role in the history of Rudolph. Media is really what can make or break anything that goes out to the public. Therefore it is easy to see how the success of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was significantly increased by the media and the way the media pronounced this heart warmed Christmas favorite.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a favorite story that has lived in the hearts of children and adults alike over many decades now. Though, what made this small Red Nosed deer so important? Why does this Reindeer matter more than the rest? Why did this created figure make it so big?

Well the media played a rather large part with this success. Let’s take a look at how and why this little deer hit it so big.

Originally this small Red Nosed Reindeer was designed by Robert L May for the Rudolph Co. LP in 1939. It was doubtful that Robert knew how popular this small deer would be. In fact, the idea was more for the benefit of the business, rather than that of the enjoyment of little children around the entire world.

This was the beginning of the folklore that warmed the hearts of many. The next step is another area that the media played a large part in the success and growth of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The next change that happened was that Johnny Marks, the brother in law to Robert May, took the idea of the Red Nosed Reindeer and turned it into a song. This song was aired through the media, sung all around the world, and was introduced as part of the Christmas traditions of many.

Then there was a theatrical short cartoon that was created and presented to the public through the media in 1944. Though this was a short animated cartoon, the crowds and media went crazy.

A few short years later, the all too famous Golden Book Company took on the story and printed it in 1958. Though it is hard to find the original of these books, the same basic story and other versions of such are published to this day.

In 1964 the animated TV special hit. The media may not have boasted about the cartoon much beforehand, however they really did not need to. The media had soon seen that the popularity of this cartoon not only won viewers all over, but for many years to come. Therefore, you can see that even when the media was not on the ball, the story of Rudolph came out and the public loved it.

Finally the feature length film came out. This was many years later and had slightly a different version than the original. However, the basic idea is still there. This full-length animated story came out in 1998. There was some limited theatrical release, but the picture did take in some good recognition by the media. Then it was presented for home viewing. This also made some good money.

As you look at what the media really had to do with the story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’s success, you can say there was a good share. However, this little Red Nosed deer did not need much help guiding with this Red Nose right into the heart of all of us, adults and children alike.
