Christmas movies are a great way for families to get in the Christmas spirit while spending quality time together.
There are many Christmas movies that are family friendly and that the entire family can enjoy watching together. From cartoons to classics, the following are some Christmas movies the whole family can watch together without worrying about objectionable content.
A Very Merry Pooh Year
Winnie the Pooh fans will love this movie, where Pooh Bear and his friends at the Hundred Acre wood celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve in a series of short videos. Within the videos, Pooh plays Santa to his friends after he forgets to send their Christmas lists to Santa. In another video, the friends trade places as Piglet begins to hop like Tigger and Eeyore’s attitude is replaced with one more like Pooh’s : he even wears a Pooh shirt and likes honey. This is good for families with younger children who like watching Pooh bear.
One Magic Christmas
This movie is a great family friendly Christmas movie about the true meaning of Christmas and looking for the best in people. In it, a Christmas angel sent by Santa appears to a woman whose husband and two children are working hard to make ends meet. The woman is bitter and cynical, but with the help from her children, her Christmas angel, and a trip to see Santa Claus himself, she soon begins to learn the true meaning of Christmas.
A Christmas Story
This cult classic is one both parents and older kids will like. It tells the story of Ralphie, a young boy growing up in 1940s Indiana, and the lengths he goes to in order to try and get what he considers the ultimate Christmas present : a Red Ryder BB gun. But a number of obstacles, including his mother, teachers, and even the mall Santa, dismiss his idea by telling him, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”
The Snowman
This short animated film based on a children’s book features beautiful animation and music about an English boy who lovingly makes a snowman that then comes to life and takes him flying on a series of adventures, including trying on clothes and then having a party in the forest with the snowman and his other snow friends.
A Charlie Brown Christmas
The Peanuts gang has been around for ages, so both young and old members of the family will enjoy this Christmas film. In it, Charlie Brown becomes frustrated with what seems to be an abundance of materialism surrounding the Christmas season. Seeing his frustration, Lucy suggests he be in charge of the school Christmas pageant. For it, he gets a dying Christmas tree that is losing its needles only to have everyone make fun of it. Frustrated, he runs off crying, but Linus manages to bring the tree back to life while helping the rest of the gang learn that Christmas is more than just materialistic things. A cute family movie with a good message, this is one everyone can watch and enjoy.
The Grinch
Based on Dr Seuess’ book, this movie is a remake of the cartoon, only it features human actors and an amazing set as it follows the Grinch’s attempts to ruin Christmas and the subsequent change of heart he experiences.
