There are many ways to get into the Christmas spirit. Whether it’s singing carols or baking cookies or shopping for presents, each family has their own way of preparing for Christmas.
Christmas movies are a great way for families to spend time together when celebrating the season. With so many Christmas movies out there, however, it can be difficult to find one the whole family will enjoy. The following are some Christmas movies that are great for families.
Frosty the Snowman
This classic holiday movie will make parents nostalgic and kids excited to watch. This cartoon from the 60’s follows the adventures of Frosty the Snowman, who is searching for a way back to the North Pole. During his journey, however, he must face a number of obstacles, including a scheming evil magician who wants to thwart Frosty’s plans.
The Little Drummer Boy
Made around the same time as Frosty the Snowman and using the same type of animation, this touching story tells of an orphan drummer boy who is kidnapped by a wicked man. The little drummer boy escapes and begins his search for his camel, who was lost while he was kidnapped. He eventually finds him at the manger where Jesus was born. Because he has no gift, the little drummer boy plays a song for him on his drum.
Prancer
This family-friendly Christmas movie centers around Santa’s reindeer, not Rudolph this time, but Prancer. In this story, an 8-year-old girl named Jessica finds a wounded reindeer in the forest and is convinced he is really one of Santa’s reindeer. She takes care of him and vows to return him back to the North Pole. Her father, however, has a different idea of what to do with Prancer. Jessica is determined to overcome these obstacles and return Prancer to Santa by Christmas Eve so they can make their deliveries.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
This classic Christmas cartoon is based on Dr. Seuss’ book of the same name and is about the magical town of Who-ville and the Grinch, who lives just north of the happy town. Angered by their Christmas festivities and happiness, the Grinch vows to ruin Christmas for the Whos by stealing their presents. However, he learns that Christmas is more than just getting presents. Kids will enjoy singing along with the songs and watching the clever animation.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
This classic animated film centers around Santa and his reindeer, which don’t include Rudolph. Little Rudolph is ridiculed because of his bright nose and fears he will never be able to be one of Santa’s team. However, when a major blizzard comes through, Christmas is cancelled unless Santa can find a way to make it through the snow. Rudolph and his nose become heroes when they use it to save Christmas.
Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town
This fun animated movie tells a different kind of Christmas story : how Kris Kringle came to be Santa. It tells of how he brings toys to the unhappy children of Sombertown and lifts their spirits, thus becoming Santa Claus.
There are many wonderful Christmas movies the whole family can enjoy, from light-hearted cartoons to touching stories about the true meaning of Christmas. These are just a few suggestions of Christmas movies that are great for the whole family to watch together to get into the holiday spirit.
