At Christmas time children get very excited about Santa, reindeer, presents, and the whole idea of Christmas. They get anxious for the jolly man to come visit their home and fill their stockings with gifts and goodies. One fun way to help with their excitement, and focus it is to turn on a great Santa Claus movie. Children have hundreds of questions about Santa Claus, such as where he comes from, how his reindeer fly, how he gets around the whole world in one night, and more. Great Santa Claus movies can help answer those questions and keep your child entertained. Animated movies are great for children, and the following are just a few of the animated Santa Claus movies to consider this year at Christmas:
A Year without Santa Claus: In this movie Mrs. Claus tells us about the time Santa had a bad cold and decided to take a vacation from Christmas. He feels like no one cares about the Christmas spirit. So, two of his elves, Jingle Bells and Jangle Bells decided to go out (with Vixen) to find children to convince Santa that the Christmas spirit is still important to everybody else. But they have to get past Heat Miser and Snow Miser, first, before they land in Southtown, USA, where it never snows for Christmas. But the Miser Brothers can’t agree to let it snow in Southtown. Lucky for everyone Mrs. Santa knows their mom, Mother Nature. The story continues, and the Christmas spirit is restored.
This animated movie introduces new characters to help spice up the idea of Christmas and get your child’s imagination running. It captures the difficulty and sacrifice of what Santa does helping relay the Christmas spirit to your children. It is entertaining, fun, and has a good ending.
Tukiki’s Christmas and Santa’s Pocket Watch: This animated film is a great choice for kids for Christmas. It is made by Questar Video, Inc. and is a short tape about Tukiki, and this child’s Christmas experience. Of course Santa is very much apart of it. This film is fun for children, short, and a good characterization of Santa.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town: This is a film that was made in 1970 and is still as wonderful today as it was then. Clearly the animation pales in comparison to the modern animation today, but the poignancy and joy of Christmas it captures is great. This is a story of Santa getting ready to come to give gifts to children, and of children getting ready for Santa.
There are probably many more animated films about Santa. If you want to find some for your child you can visit your local library at Christmas time and check a few out. They probably have many of the classic animated films like the Charlie Brown Christmas movies, Dot and Spot, Rudolph, and more. Or, visit your local video rental place, or go online to find fun animated Christmas movies, a short plot summary, and what age it is appropriate for. If all else fails, ask around, there are plenty of parents who know what animated Santa Claus movies they loved, and which they could do without.
Santa Claus movies are a great way to embrace the spirit of Christmas, have fun, fuel the imagination, and entertain yourself and small children.
