In the parable of the Mustard seed God compares the mustard seed to the faith and love you have for the Lord. It starts out as a tiny mustard seed and then depending on what you do to nurture it, it can grow into a large tree that provides a resting place for several birds. Here are some ideas to go along with the parable:
1. Planting Seeds. This may not necessarily be a “craft” in the sense that we think of crafts, but it definitely helps the children understand how a seed works, grows, and develops. Sometimes it is difficult to see how exactly a seed grows without actually being able to perform the labor themselves. You can use the planting of any type of seed (preferably one that grows rather quickly like a lima bean or something) to show the children what exactly is need to help a seed grow. Then you can compare those needed things like sun, water, and air to the things you need to help your faith and love of God grow. As they watch the seed grow because of they continue to nurture it they will be able to make a better comparison with what they can do to come closer to God.
