A wind instrument is an instrument that you blow into in order to create music. There are many different types of wind instruments that range from a large tuba to a very small piccolo. Each wind instrument is capable of making a very different sound depending on the length and width of the stem of the instrument. Another feature that is characteristic of wind instruments are the holes along the stem of the instrument that you can cover or expose while playing the instrument to create even more variation in the sound that is produced. You can make wind instruments at home with a few simple materials and a little know-how.
Making a flute
Making a flute can be very simple. All that you really need is a tube of some sort. The most elementary form of wind instrument crafts can be created by using empty toilet paper or paper towel tubes. You could either cut holes into the tubes or just draw them on and then have fun making horn noises into the tube. If you want to make a more functional flute, you can use a PVC pipe and drill holes along the side of the pipe. If you have wood working skills you could whittle a mouthpiece for your flute or you can go to a music store to buy a mouth piece.
