Make Your Own Horn

Switch to Desktop/Mobile View

For this craft, you will need a paper towel roll, some waxed paper, a rubber band, and a pen. Cover one end of the paper towel roll with waxed paper and secure it with a rubber band. Punch a row of holes along one side of the roll with the tip of a pen. To play, sing a tune into the open end of the horn. You can change the sound of the tune by covering and un-covering the holes that you made along the side of the tube.

Using your imagination

There are many different types of noisemakers on the market that you can buy for very little and add to in order to give them a more instrumental feel. For example, following New Year’s Day, you can buy discount noisemakers and create a whole wind instrument band. You can add cardboard cutouts of the handles that you would normally find on a trumpet or a trombone or experiment with materials like funnels to make larger wind instruments like the tuba. The great thing about musical instrument crafts is that you can create sound from just about anything so it is hard to go wrong.
