Drinking Straw Flowers
Spring evokes thoughts of blooming flowers, fragrant plants and growth. Yet for some, their geographical area or lack of skill when it comes to gardening, prohibit them from being able to enjoy the growth of spring to its fullest. Fortunately, there is a way for anyone to create colorful flowers that will last much longer than the real ones and are impossible to kill. Drinking straw flowers are easy to make. Simply trace a flower shape from a piece of paper or trace individual pedals that you can combine to make the flower bud. Use a push bin or a metal brad to connect the paper flower to the drinking straw stem (you may need to use a knife to cut a slit in the straw before pushing a brad through it). Have the flowers stand alone or make a bouquet by putting a Styrofoam ball into a pot and push the straws through the foam. Cover the foam with painted green straws, green pipe cleaners, craft store moss, etc. Display your vibrant flowers for as long as you would like. No need to water or fertilize!
