Grow Your Own…

Plants provide a home with great natural beauty. Combining gardening and craft making is a smart way to bring the excitement and beauty of nature indoors. Empty baby food jars can be used to make terrariums and small herb gardens. This craft not only brings the look of spring time indoors but it also brings the smells of spring indoors. This craft also presents an opportunity for education. Have fun making and watching your small garden grow while your children learn what a plant needs to grow and how tiny seeds can yield the food that we eat. The possibilities for expanding this craft are also present. Use colorful paper, markers or paints to decorate the bottle. Or, take your miniature garden up a notch by using a 2 liter bottle instead of a jar. If you have a brown thumb, make your flowers yourself by using paper flower pedals, brads, and drinking straws or popsicle sticks.
