Frame: A Gift

Picture frames make great gifts because they can be used to commemorate whatever occasion that they are being given for. For example, you can give a picture frame with a birthday theme to a child on their birthday and then the child can then use a photo taken at their party in the frame that they were given. Picture frames show that you care enough about the person that you are given them to, to think about something that they can enjoy and get us out of. In order to give a picture frame gift that has been chosen with specific thought in mind, there are a few tips explained in the paragraphs below that are helpful to remember.

First of all, you want to decide what type of picture frame would work best for the event or party that you will be bringing the gift to. Common frames are usually made out of wood, plastic or foam. Dollar stores sell picture frames in a variety of materials. Second hand stores and flea markets are great places to find either inexpensive or unique picture frames. Mail order companies, like Oriental Trading Company, offer foam picture frame sets. These sets usually have a theme that is associated with them. This makes it much easier to select a picture frame that fits perfectly with the occasion that is being celebrated. Personalize the picture frame that you choose to match the theme of the party (if you have not already purchased a frame that is specific enough to not need any further embellishments). Paint graduation caps for a graduation party, glue on sand for a beach party, use balloon and cake stickers for a birthday party, use rattle shaped brads for a baby shower, etc. If you cannot find the appropriate embellishments to buy, try making your own. Foam stickers are easy to make, simply use foam and some small cookie cutters to get the shapes that you need. After your shape is outlined with the cookie cutter, use scissors or a sharp blade to cut out the design and attach it to the picture frame with craft glue.

Different materials that you use to make your picture frame with will add a different feel to the finished product. For example, you can create a very high-end and elegant picture frame, appropriate for a wedding or anniversary, by covering the picture frame in silk or satin. If you are giving this gift as a wedding present, try to find a candid shot of the bride and groom together. You can add the bride and groom’s name to the frame by using calligraphy to decorate the back side of the frame. You can also add a personalized message to the back of the frame. This is much better than a card because your well-wishes will always remain with the gift when you write on the back side of a photo frame.

If you do not have a picture to put into the frame when you give it to your recipient, you can include a message in the frame that explains that you will be taking pictures at the event and will send the image that is to be put into the frame at a later date. Your recipient will appreciate not only the thought of the gift but also the thought that they will have the memories that they are making at that moment preserved by you in your gift. Making picture frames more personalized is a simple way of taking something ordinary and making it unique and special for someone on your gift list.
