The Importance of Your Preschool Lesson Plans

As a child, when did you start to learn how to socialize with other people and understand what teachers and parents have been teaching you?  Each person is different and remembers at different points in their life when something began to make sense to them.  Did you know that the many things you have learned and use in your everyday life, you learned them at a preschool level?  Teaching toddlers and preschool age children the values that need to be used in life, how to socialize and use letters and words in sentences is important.  As an educator, you need to set up lesson plans that will have a lasting effect on the preschool students that will help them achieve the most out of life.

Lesson plans for preschool students need to teach them behavioral values, basic values and structure.  As a preschool student starts to understand what they have been taught, they will use these items in their life.  Start your lesson plan by using the three different factors that are listed below.

Imagination and Academics

Both of these items can be classified as two different subjects, but are many times used together.  By using the imagination that is involved with art, you can also teach a student how to use mathematics with the art.  For example, have the student use finger paints, but they must draw the number you ask them to with the finger paint.  The number may not come out clear, but the student is learning how to be creative and also learning how to draw the number they see in their mind.  You can also use music, singing, shapes, colors and organizing skills together.  The more they understand what you are asking them, the more they will learn.

Don’t be afraid to show organization with the task you are asking the student to accomplish.  As they recognize the structure, the preschool student will recognize they must work together at times as a team or a group or they must accomplish the task by themselves.  This will also help the student learn how to communicate the questions they have.  Make sure you use a complete list of the academics a preschool student needs to know.  Science, animals, reading, books, math, singing and active time is important and very interesting to preschool students.

The Weather

Teaching the weather doesn’t need to be just about the weather.  Preschool students know the difference between a warm sunny day and a cold rainy day, but do they know how the rain is created or how snow is made?  Teaching a preschool student this information will keep the student entertained and excited.  Use lesson plans to teach the students about the stars, sun and the moon.  Teach them what clouds are and how they are formed.  If you live in an area that has different seasons, use a lesson plan that will allow the student to learn about the different seasons.  You can also use the weather to teach about the different holidays.  There are many songs you can teach a preschool student about holidays.  The more songs they sing, the more their memory will improve.

Values and Behavior

A preschool student needs to know how to interact with other students, teachers and adults.  Starting at a young age will allow the student more time to learn how to do this and they will succeed.  The manners they need to be taught need to include respect and how to listen.  Use items within the student’s personal life to help them recognize how to listen to what is being asked and how to use that in everyday life.
