Are you looking for something a little bit different this Easter season? Then try one of these great, exciting Easter basket craft ideas: the egg carton Easter container or the coffee can Easter container.

Egg Carton Easter Bunny Container

Materials needed for each egg carton container:

The bottom half of an egg carton
Easter grass (the green plastic stuff)
One cotton ball
Plain white paper
Scissors
A stapler

Optional:

3 pom poms
A pair of wiggly eyes
A pipe cleaner
Markers, crayons, glitter, other decorating stuff

Instructions for making Egg Carton Containers

1. Draw an Easter Bunny head on a piece of paper. If you are not confident in your drawing abilities, you can easily find a picture online that you can then trace onto the paper. If you want your kids to be able to draw the head themselves, trace the pattern on a piece of plastic, like the lid of an ice cream container, or on a piece of stiff construction paper so that your kids can then trace around the template and draw their own rabbit heads. Then let them decorate their rabbit heads in any way that they want

2. Cut out the rabbit head shape. This is another step that you can let your kids do, if the rabbit head that you have chosen is simple.

3. Now, if your kids haven’t drawn on the eyes and the nose, you can easily glue wiggly eyes onto the rabbit head. Then glue on a nose out of pom poms. Then cut out two small teeth out of white paper, and glue those onto the head. Or you can just have your kids draw on teeth.

4. Now take a cotton ball and pull it apart. Glue the cotton into the middle of each of the ears so that you can end up with fuzzy ears.

5. Now staple the rabbit head onto the front of your egg carton. Don’t worry a bit if the head tilts forward. It’s a bit heavy so the paper drooping is entirely normal.

6. Now you are going to create a handle for your egg carton container. Poke two small holes in your egg carton–one on either side. They need to be directly across from each other. Then thread the pipe cleaner through the holes. Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together so that you can then have a handle for your egg carton container.

Coffee Can Bunny

Materials needed for one bunny:

Coffee can
White spray paint
Either spray adhesive, for adults to use, or tacky glue
Cotton balls
Paper
Markers, crayons, pens

Optional:
Rabbit ears headband
Small feather duster

Instructions for making Coffee Can Bunny Easter craft

1. Spray paint the entire coffee can white. Make that you also spray paint the plastic cover. If you don’t want to use spray paint, you can use another type of paint. However, spray paint is the quickest, neatest way to paint your coffee can.
NOTE: Prepare and protect your craft area by putting down newspaper or plastic so that you can keep your table and your floor clean!

2. Using the spray adhesive according to the instructions on the container, spray the entire can then attach cotton balls so that you can’t see any of the can. Only adults should be using the spray adhesive. If the kids want to do this step themselves, give them tacky glue so that they can glue cotton balls on their entire coffee can, to cover it completely. Do not cover the plastic cover with cotton balls.

3. Draw a rabbit face on a piece of white paper. If your drawing skills are lacking, you can easily find a template or a picture of a rabbit’s head online. Print it out on a piece of paper that will match the size of the plastic cover of the coffee can.

4. Color the picture in as desired. Then, using your adhesive of choice, glue the face to the front of the can where the plastic cover was. Do not glue the face onto the plastic cover, but do glue it onto the place where the cover went.

5. Now, what to do about rabbit ears? A really easy way to attach ears to your coffee can bunny is to purchase rabbit ear headbands from your local dollar store. Then just put the headband on the coffee can close to the rabbit’s face. Or you can trace out rabbit ears on heavy, high quality card stock. Then glue the ears onto the top of the can close to the face.

6. Finally, if you want to, you can purchase miniature feather dusters and then bore a hole in the back of the coffee can with a screwdriver. Then you can just stick the feather duster in that hole, and you have a perfect tail for your coffee can bunny! A big pile of cotton balls makes a great tail, too.
