Materials
Two paper plates
Scissors
Tape – colored tape looks really good but it is optional
Paint, markers or crayons
Pipe cleaner
Hole punch
Glue
Googly eyes
Instructions
- Fold a paper plate in half so that the back side of the plate is touching itself
- Using the other paper plate cut out a strip of the plate from the middle. Throw the middle strip away.
- Tape each half of the round pieces you just made from cutting the middle strip onto the folded plate, you can also staple them together
- Position them so that the eating surfaces of the plates are facing each other
- Tape along the round edges only
- This is done to form two pockets where you will put your fingers later on to control the puppet
- Draw a butterfly on your puppet
- Punch two holes towards the top for the antennae
- Loop a pipe cleaner through the holes so that they form the antenna
- Glue on googly eyes
- Once it has dried you have a great butterfly puppet that flaps its wings
