Christmas Crafts for Kids

Kids absolutely love it when it’s time for arts and crafts at school and at home. Doing arts and crafts is one of the best ways to allow children to explore their creative side. It’s also a wonderful way to give them a break from their daily routines. Christmas crafts are a great way to increase concentration and they actually improve reasoning skills as well. Instead of letting your kids waste time on television, come up with some Christmas crafts that will keep them engaged and provide them with a sense of accomplishment when they have completed the project.

Painting is a wonderful Christmas craft idea for kids as it is a great way to allow kids to explore their creative side. You can purchase a few paint-by-number kits or you can choose to go with blank sheets of paper and allow your kids to create their own Christmas pictures. Painting is also a great way to help your kids build up their self-esteem with a little positive reinforcement from you. Have your kids create pictures for their grandparents and give them as Christmas gifts.

Paper crafts are another wonderful way to engage your children. Purchase some construction paper along with some cardstock paper and cut them out into snowflakes and snowmen. Get some crayons and have your kids color the snowflakes and add their names to them then hang them from your kitchen light or from the ceiling over the banister. Another fun thing you might consider is hanging them from your banister along with some blue and white garland.

Spend an afternoon making homemade candies and other treats. Once they have cooled, create a candy train, using graham crackers to make the body of the train. Put a chocolate Santa Claus inside the train. Make wheels using cookies or oversized gun drops. Let your children have fun decorating the Christmas train with some frosting and different candy canes. This is a great Christmas craft, especially if your kids are tired of making a traditional gingerbread house.

Snowman Christmas cards are another fun Christmas craft to share with your loved ones. You will need some construction paper or some foam paper to create the body of the snowman. Decorate the snowman with foam materials and wiggle eyes. Inside the card, include a nice poem about the snowman or the holiday season. Include some hot chocolate or a packet of apple cider to share with your loved ones this year. It’s a fun way to spread the Christmas joy and it’s an easy Christmas craft that the kids can help with.

Another great kid-friendly Christmas craft is the Christmas wreath. Depending upon how creative you would like to get with the wreath, you can either purchase one from the craft store or make one with a paper plate as the base. If you purchase one, decorate it with some snowmen and reindeer that the kids cut out with cookie cutters from foam paper. You can create a Christmas wreath using a paper plate. Spray paint or paint it green with some acrylic paint. Let the kids glue a bunch of cheerios to the plate and then paint over the cheerios with some red paint. This should look like holly berries. Wrap some leaves around the cheerios. You can also glue a large bow onto the plate so it resembles a real Christmas wreath. Another option would be using macaroni instead of cheerios. Make macaroni reindeer antlers and use the cheerios to make the faces of the deer.
