Christmas is just around the corner and if you are looking for some fun Christmas crafts, why not start with an essential Christmas decoration, the Christmas stocking. If you have kids, come up with a few crafts that will not only keep them busy and they will also build some lasting memories with your children. Here are a few fun Christmas stocking crafts for kids:

Paper Bag Christmas Stocking

This is one of the easiest Christmas stockings to create and you can do it with a child of any age. Grab some thick brown paper bags like you from the grocery store. If you cannot find a brown paper bag, use brown felt. It works just as well and is more durable than paper. Here are the supplies you will need:

To get started, trace the outline of a stocking on the brown paper bag. Now, cut out two copies of the stocking. If you use the paper bag, you can cut out two copies by cutting through both sides of the bag at the same time. Once you have the pieces, glue the edges of the stocking together or sew them together with yarn. Whichever method you choose to attach the pieces of your stocking together, be careful to leave enough room for presents so they won’t fall out. Leave the top of the stocking open so you can put presents in it. Once you are done gluing the stocking and it has had enough time to dry, punch some holes around the edges of the stocking. Weave yarn through the holes. This way your stocking is sealed, but you still get the unique decorative look of the yarn around the edges. Once you reach the end of stitching, leave a large loop of yarn and tie a knot in it. This is how you will hang the stocking.

Now it’s time to decorate the stocking. Get out the crayons, colored pencils, glue, glitter and all the decorations and let your kids have fun. Add some flair to the stocking by cutting out some construction paper in different colors and shapes. Cut out Santa Claus, reindeer, Christmas trees, presents and other Christmas decorations to go on the stocking. Have your child write their name with glue and then use the glitter to cover the glue. Allow the stocking to dry and it’s ready for use!

Construction Paper Stocking

If you don’t have access to a brown paper bag, create a construction paper stocking. With construction paper you have the opportunity to add a variety of different colors to the stocking. You can use red and green construction paper and cut it out into different sections so the toe and top of the stocking are green and the body of the stocking is red. Decorate it with stickers, drawings and glitter and you have a cute Christmas craft to enjoy with your kids.

Felt Stockings

Do you have older kids that are learning to sew? Make felt Christmas stockings or use other fabric like denim, velvet or leather. It’s a fun way to add a twist to a traditional stocking. Cut out enough fabric for the body of the stocking and use other fabrics to decorate it. A denim stocking looks cute when you add the child’s name to it using felt and leather. Don’t forget to add some color to the stocking by picking up some stickers and some stick-on lights. This is a great way to build lasting Christmas memories with your kids!
