Valentine's Day Bulletin Board IdeasValentine’s Day can be a fun time of year, especially when it comes to teaching. There are so many different themes to follow and topics to teach during the month of February that children can truly come away with a rich knowledge of their country and it’s traditions. As a teacher in the public or private school system, or a home schooling parent there are several different ways to help get your kids and students involved with the month of February. Coming up with some creative Valentine’s Day bulletin board ideas is one way to get everyone excited about the up and coming month.

  1. Friendships grow with love: Since one of the biggest holidays in the month of February is Valentine’s Day it’s important for kids to get a grasp of why we celebrate it. One bulletin board idea to get kids into the spirit of love and friendship is to make a bulletin using a garden as the background. Since the title of your bulletin board has the word “grow” in it, you are going to create a bulletin board with a garden of hearts. Cut out several different shapes and sizes of hearts as friends come in all different shapes and sizes and grow a different rate. Then you can make the hearts in to flowers that are growing in your garden and write the kids names on the hearts of your flowers. For younger children who can’t read you may want to use pictures of them instead of writing their names. At the top write the title, “Friendships grow with love.”
  2. Celebrating love all over the world: This ideas works better with older kids than younger ones as they can grasp better the fact that there are people all over the world that celebrate traditions like Valentine’s Day. However, young children can also benefit from a bulletin board like this. Using a large piece of butcher paper, trace the world onto it and hang hearts all over it. The clincher with this bulletin board is to write the word love in all the different languages around the world. It can really help out in the social studies department as you learn about other cultures and traditions and how they might celebrate Valentine’s Day.
  3. Conversation Hearts: Using a colored piece of butcher paper you can create an interactive bulletin board for your kids and students. Cut out several different colors of hearts and place sayings on them that are associated with Valentine’s Day like, “be mine”, “Sweetie Pie”, “I love you”, etc. You will probably want to buy a box of conversation hearts before you do your sayings just to be sure you have the right sayings on them. Then for an activity you can have the students use their box of conversation hearts and try and find the matching saying on the bulletin board. If they can find matching ones then they get to eat the candy. Kids love this bulletin board.
  4. More than Valentines: Since there is more than just Valentine’s Day in February that is celebrated it can be useful to find a bulletin board that catches more than just the hearts, candy, and love. We also talk about Groundhog’s Day and President’s Day in February which are fairly significant things to talk about and teach. So instead of just focusing on one thing try and get all three into one with this idea. You can use a Valentines background such as paper with hearts on it, or blank paper with your own heart cut outs. Then gather pictures of your students, the staff, and perhaps pictures of past and present Presidents of the United States to hang on the board. Then you can have a picture of a groundhog somewhere on the board thinking (out loud) about the past, the present, and about future leaders of the country.

Hopefully this will give you some Valentine’s Day bulletin board ideas for young and older children and students.
