What you will need:
- 1 egg white
- Pinch of cream of tartar
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- Sugar cubes
Time needed: Under 1 Hour
Instructions for the project: Start by mixing up a batch of “mortar”. This can be done by beating together one egg white and a pinch of cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Add 1 1/2 cups of confectioners’ sugar, 1/4 cup at a time, beating thoroughly until well combined. (Remember to let the kids know that since the egg in the sweet mortar is raw, they should not eat it.) Now you are ready to start building by first assemble the base of the pyramid. Using the mortar and a pastry brush, you should glue together ten rows of ten sugar cubes each. The next step is to glue together the rows to form a square. For the second layer, you should glue together nine rows of nine cubes each and then center and glue the layer on top of the base square. Repeat this method to add seven more layers, each time decreasing the length of the rows by one cube. To finish you can top the pyramid with a single cube.
