St. Patrick’s Day kids crafts are a fun way to get kids involved in the lore and tradition of this holiday. It is also a good way to change the focus from pinching to other fun aspects. Just be careful when you choose your kids crafts that you choose crafts that offer some form of homage to the culture.
Pot of Gold:
This is a fun craft to make in order to hold some treats, and to embrace the legends and lore of the holiday with leprechauns and pots of gold.
First gather your supplies. You will need the following items per person doing the craft:
- 8-10 yellow pom poms
- yellow curling ribbon
- green tissue paper
- small baby food jar
- white craft glue
- water
- scissors
- paint brush
- small treats
Start by making sure the baby food jar is clean and dry, and that the label has been removed. Then, mix some glue with water until it is the consistency of paint. Then using your paintbrush, “paint” the outside of the jar, and stick small pieces of cut green tissue paper onto it. You can do several layers. When complete, let it dry thoroughly, as the glue can get very wet, especially if you do several layers.
Once completely dry, wrap ribbon around the lid lip and tie it into a knot. This is going to be curled with the scissors to make it look fancier. Then you want to take the lid itself, and glue the yellow pom poms on top. It will look like pieces of gold coming out of a pot. Let it dry completely.
Once that is dry, you can fill the jar with little candies, such as M&M’s and give these as a crafty little gift, or just for fun. Or, keep it for yourself.
