The following are some great preschool crafts. They are good for any holiday, or just for fun. Most of these preschool crafts can be done by the preschooler alone with just a little prep work or help.
Liberty bell: In order to make this you will need a toilet paper roll, paper cup, tin foil, and a piece of construction paper. You will start by having them draw a flag or other patriotic symbol on their piece of construction paper. This is going to serve as the background to their craft. Next, have them decorate the toilet paper roll, and help them write “liberty” on it. You are going to glue this over the picture, near the top, in the middle. Then, take the paper cup and cover it in tin foil so that it is silver. Glue it under the toilet paper roll. It will then look like the Liberty Bell. This is a great craft for when you learn about freedom, or near the fourth of July holiday.
Sock puppets: Puppets are a great resource for preschool, they can help with reading, with fun, etc. So, let your preschooler make a sock puppet. You will need a hot glue or fabric glue, googly eyes, felt, ribbon, etc. to decorate with, and some markers or fabric markers. Let the kids design their own puppet. They might want felt ears to make it a bunny, or a ribbon to make it look like a girl, etc.
Spoon dolls: For this craft you need wooden spoons, the little plastic googly eyes, some fabric squares, yarn or ribbons, and other things to decorate with, such as felt, buttons, etc. What you are going to do is help the preschooler glue eyes on the wooden spoon, and draw on a mouth. Then let them use the other items to decorate the spoon and make it into a doll. They can glue on hair, a dress, a bow, etc. It is a fun project and gives them something to play with.
Paper plate crowns: This is a simple project. You are going to want to prepare it by folding the paper plate in half and cutting a slit down the center, but not all the way through. You are basically going to cut a star out of the center so that it can be worn around the head like a crown. Once the crowns are cut out, give them over to the preschooler to decorate with stickers, buttons, gems, and other fun things. You can give them crayons, foam stickers, glue and various decorative items, or whatever you would like. Let them decorate their crowns, and have them write their names on it.
When doing preschool crafts, always make sure you have adult help with any cutting or gluing. The best crafts for preschoolers are the ones that take very little work other than decorating.
