A great way to teach nursery rhymes is to make a flannel board. Flannel can be purchased at any craft store or even Wal-mart. Having a few different pieces of flannel for different background colors is a great way to reuse the board for all the different nursery rhymes you will be reading.

You can find supplies for nursery rhyme crafts online at many websites. A popular one for school teachers is teachersparadise.com. This website not only provides flip books, flannel board cut outs, it also is a great place to learn other ideas for nursery rhyme crafts.

Going to a second hand or goodwill store is a wonderful place to purchase old shoes that are large to use as a prop for the nursery rhyme, The Old Woman in the Shoe. You can have a relay race with kids by having them but on the large shoes that are too big for them and see who can run in them.

Another nursery rhyme craft you can make with supplies from your own home is a toilet paper nursery rhyme character. You will need two or three empty toilet paper rolls, glue, scissors, glue, and markers. Draw little red riding hood or other nursery rhyme characters and glue them to the toilet paper rolls. You can now use the toilet paper characters as props when you read the nursery rhyme.

Wal-mart or any other store will have plenty of supplies you need to create nursery rhyme crafts. Paper finger puppets are a great nursery rhyme craft that is easy to make. You will need stiff paper, scissors, markers or crayons, and glue. Then you will cut the paper around the width of your finger and glue the ends together. You can then decorate the puppet to be your favorite nursery rhyme.

Puff art is another easy nursery rhyme craft. Supplies can be purchased again at Wal-mart or any local store. You will need to purchase straws, paint, and paper. The craft is to have children or adults paint by blowing paint through the straws. It’s a fun activity for children to pretend like they are the big bad wolf.

If you are teaching nursery rhymes to small children or to a class, it’s a great idea to put together a prop box of different nursery rhymes. Using a large detergent box with a handle is a wonderful box to make the rhymes portable. You can spray paint the box and add pictures from different nursery rhymes to the sides of the box. You can also use a shoebox or a small plastic storage container. Inside the box you will want to have laminated copies of the nursery rhymes. Then you will want to make props that go along with each nursery rhyme.

If you are a fan of Humpty Dumpty, make a large laminated copy of the nursery rhyme. Then you can make a set for when you read the nursery rhyme to others. You will need a plastic egg and a piece of cardboard or building blocks and some small toy soldiers to act as the “king’s men”.
