Preschool age kids are some of the most enthusiastic crafters. They are happy to take on a project as long as it meets with their skills and short attention span. Tissue box crafts are extremely popular with this age group. There are numerous ideas that you can put together quickly for an afternoon of crafting with your young kids or even a classroom activity at the preschool. Either way it is important to encourage your kids to flex their creative muscles. Here are some tissue box crafts for preschool age kids-
- Robot feet-This is one of the easiest since preschool age kids love to play pretend. Simply take two empty tissue boxes cover them with foil (glue or tape the foil on) and you have robot feet!
- Pretend Mailbox-This is simple to do just cover a tissue box with construction paper and write the word “Mail” on the side. Cut out a mailbox flag and attach it to the other side with a brad. Then you will need to cut one end of the tissue box to create a flap. Have your preschooler then fill the Pretend Mailbox with lots of pretend mail!
- Tissue Box Guitar-This simple preschool craft turns a tissue box into a creative musical instrument! Start by covering a rectangle tissue box with brown construction paper, leaving the hole in the top (you can use a black marker to make fancy designs on the “guitar”). As a finishing touch stretch three or four rubber bands lengthwise across the box. From a piece of cardboard, cut out the shape of a guitar neck and use a marker to draw lines to resemble strings. Glue or staple the neck onto the tissue box guitar and you are ready to play!
- Tissue Box Planter-Start by covering and decorating a square tissue box. Then you can cut out the top panel, and set a small plant inside. This is an easy way to make a beautiful decoration for any room!
- Tissue Box Bank-This is a fun way to get kids introduced to how to save money. Cover a square tissue box with construction paper and decorate with markers or stickers, or use a pre-designed tissue box for a decorative item to store money!
- Back-to-School Teacher Gift-This is fun gift for your child’s teacher that your child can help personalize. Start by covering and decorating a square tissue box with designs such as apples, numbers, letters, etc. Then you can glue or staple a ribbon to the top to create a handle. Fill the box with small teacher gifts: an apple, pencils, red marker, chalk, stickers, and more to give to your preschool teacher!
- Tissue Box Car Garage-Start by cutting the opening of the tissue box on one side to allow for the edge of the box to be flush with the floor when laying on one side. Have your child decorate the outside with paints, glitter, stickers, etc.
- Tissue Box Pencil/Pen Holder-Simply decorate the outside and fill with pens and pencils or even crayons.
- Stack ’em up Preschool Game-Have your child help you decorate the outside of the boxes like blocks. You can put shapes, numbers or letters. Then you can take turns stacking the tissue boxes, one on top of the other, to see how high you can stack them before they fall over! Along the way this can help foster learning the alphabet, numbers and shapes.
- Tissue Box Doll Sled-You do not have to worry about buying one of those expensive Barbie cars. Barbie can have her own uniquely decorated sled. Simply decorate the box, put her inside and send her on her way.
