JellyJarsMaking soy candles is a great alternative to beeswax. Soy wax is made from soybeans, or more specifically, from hydrogenated soybean oil. Soy candles are preferred by many crafters, because the wax is cheaper than beeswax, it is all-natural and it is more environmentally friendly, than paraffin (which is made from petroleum). In addition, the candles last about 50 percent longer than traditional paraffin candles, they produce less soot and distribute scent more easily, and the wax spills are easy to clean up with soap and water.

So, if you are looking for a unique and fun project, there are so many ideas for making creative and clever soy candles. Container soy candles are the easiest of all candles to make. Making a soy candle is just a simple process, of combing wax with dye and fragrance. There are many crafters that have found that making their own soy candles, is a very satisfying hobby.
Jelly jar soy candles-These darling candles will make a great gift, or a wonderful way to decorate your home. You can use extra jelly jars, or purchase them quite reasonably at discount or grocery stores.

What you will need:

Instructions for the project:

Place your pouring pot on the scale, and turn it on. Scoop two pounds of soy wax into the pouring pot. Then you will need to place your pouring pot, on a stove burner. Turn the heat on low, depending on the type of stove you are using. Once the soy wax has melted (it should take about 30 minutes), shut off the burner, and remove your pouring pot, from the burner. Once the soy wax has completely melted, you will then add two color chips, of your desired color, to the soy wax. You should le them sit in the soy wax, for one minute and then stir until dissolved.

While your soy wax is cooling down, you should get your 5 jelly jars ready. At this point you will need to glue your wicks to the bottom of the jars. You should make sure that you center the wick. You can then place a Popsicle stick on top of each jar, and press the wick into edge of the Popsicle stick. It is very important to make sure that the wick is centered at the top of the jar. Once your soy wax has cooled down (this should take about 1 1/2 hours), your pouring pot will be lukewarm, and the soy wax will look like a smooth and creamy raspberry yogurt. You can then pour two ounces of your desired scent (fragrance oil), into the soy wax, and stir for two minutes. Then you can pour the soy wax into the 5 jars. It is important to let your candles cool, for at least 24 hours. Once the candles have cooled for 24 hours, you can remove the Popsicle sticks. You will then need to trim the candle wicks, to about 1/2 inch. Place the lids on the jars. You can then put your name of the scent on the white/brown label, and place it on the side or top of the jars. Your candle is now finished.
