Preschool file folder games are a great way to get your two, three or four year old learning his alphabet, numbers and colors. Preschool file folder games are just that, games made within a file folder. They have many shapes, pictures and colors. Preschool file folder games are simple to make. They are also very easy to take from place to place to keep your preschool aged child learning and entertained. They are great to use at any preschool as a fun and safe learning tool. They are safe because there are no small parts to choke on or hard edges to get hurt on. Making your own preschool file folder games are inexpensive to make and nearly anyone can do it.
The tools and supplies need to make preschool file folder games are, file folders, scissors, colored paper, markers, glue and self-adhesive Velcro. File folders can be found at any office supply store and self-adhesive Velcro can be found either at an office supply store or a craft store.
The first step in making your preschool file games is to choose which type of game you would like to do. A color game is a great one for children of this age. It helps them begin to learn the colors and recognize them. Next, pick a shape or shapes you would like to use, for example, an ice cream cone, or a triangle and a circle. First cut out ten triangles with tan paper. Each triangle is three inches on the short side and the other two sides are equal to each other but longer than the first side. Then, using markers, draw the diagonal lines onto the triangle making it look like an ice cream cone, but use a different color of marker for each cone; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, brown and black. After your first set of shapes is complete, you will then glue them onto the inside of the file folder.
The next step would be to cut out 10 circles two to three inches in diameter. Each one the same color used on the triangle cone. Once this step is complete you will probably want to take your project to the copy store to get it laminated so it will last through the wear and tear of preschoolers. After doing this, cut out the colored paper circles.
Note, before laminating, with your markers, you may want to decorate the front of the file folder game with a title defining that the game is for learning colors. You can also cut out a couple more ice cream cones, and then arrange them onto the front of the game so if you have multiple color preschool file folder games, you can find the one you are looking for easier.
After doing this, the self-adhesive Velcro can be applied to the triangle cone and the ice cream circle, the cones get the soft side and the ice cream gets the rough side of the Velcro. Velcro is used so you have a place to store your single pieces of the game; in this case, the circle shaped ice cream.
The object of the game is to match the color of ice cream with the same color of cone. It will help the children recognize the similarities in color.
The beginning of your preschool file folder games making has only just begun. There are many more that can be made. But in the mean time, enjoy the one you have just made and help your preschooler or preschool class have fun while they learn and develop.
