If you are looking for fun things to do with your preschooler in June, there is no limit as to what themes you can use. Whether you are looking for something to entertain your preschooler, during the lazy days of summer, or you need a theme for a preschool that is still in session, there are lots of ideas that will work well. Preschoolers are eager to learn and these themes will have them clamoring for more!  Here are some preschool themes for June-

Books to Read:

See the Circus (Lift the Flap Series)

by H. A. Rey

If I Ran the Circus (Classic Seuss)

by Theodor Geisel – Dr. Seuss

Field Trip-The ultimate field trip would be a matinee performance of the circus. Of course this will be only possible if there is a circus nearby.

Animal Cages-This fun craft can inspire the kids to create their own circus.

You will need:

Cereal Boxes (all sizes)

Paint

Knife and/or Scissors

Straw

Glue

Plastic Animals

The first step is for adults only. An adult should cut out a rectangle on both sides of the cereal box. The children can then paint the cages boxes any color they choose. Encourage them to use bright colors like typical circus cages. You then have them glue in some straw, to make a cozy cage and add the plastic animals.

Ring Masters Megaphone-This fun craft is great to take outside when it is done. A dress up top hat and a megaphone allows the children to pretend to be the ringmaster.

You will need:

Construction Paper

Tape/Stapler

Markers and Stickers

Start by having each child decorate their paper, with bright and cherry colors. Once they are done you may have to help them roll the paper into megaphone shape, and then tape or staple it in place.

Craft: Clown Shoes-Preschoolers will be delighted with this silly craft.

You will need:

Two shoe boxes per child w/ lid

Scissors

Markers

Paint

Stickers

Masking Tape (and/or hot glue)

Start by cutting a small hole into both shoe box lids. Keep in mind that this hole needs to be big enough for the child’s foot to slide in, but not to big that they will step out of the lid. The next step is to tape (and/or hot glue) the lid to the bottom of the box. Once this is done can let the child decorate the box with paint, markers, and stickers of their choice. Once dry have the child slide their foot into the shoe and act like a clown.

Books to Read:

The Relatives Came

By Cynthia Rylant

The Summer Solstice

By Ellen Jackson

Field Trip-A great summer themed field trip would be to visit a local swimming pool. Many community pools offer special programs for preschoolers.

Activities-This can be a great time to get preschoolers to be more active. Best of all this requires little more then gathering equipment and setting up stations. Since summer is outdoor time, you can have the children rotate from one station to another. Possible stations include:

Jumping rope

Playing Hopscotch

Bouncing balls

Running under a large parachute

Whatever activities are appropriate for the preschoolers involved.
