There is a huge selection of kid’s lunch boxes with a wide variety of graphics. Whatever the popular action figure or movie is, there is a corresponding lunch box. Kids love to pick out a lunch box, partly because their lunch box is a chance for individual expression. The lunch box becomes part of their identity.
Next time you go to buy a lunch box, you might want to try buying a plain one and then decorating it yourself.
Either you can decorate the lunch box with things you have around the house, or you can go to the craft store, and buy some materials.
Two ideas for personalized lunch boxes are “The scrapbox” and the “Lunch pal”.
To make the “scrapbox”
A scrapbox lunchbox is the same as a scrapbook page, only it’s on a lunch box. You can use clear wrapping tape to attach anything made of paper to the lunchbox. Have your kid brainstorm to get a few ideas. Talk about the idea and what you would need for each one. If your kid wants to make a “dinosaur” lunchbox, you can make a primordial scene by cutting out pictures of trees and a volcano. Pictures can be found in old magazines or downloaded from the Internet. You can buy stickers of dinosaurs to live in the world your kid makes on the lunch box.
Kids have a lot of creativity but they will be overwhelmed if they don’t start with an idea. Once you have nailed down the idea, plan the lunch box. Make sure you draw out an idea of what the end result will be, and then accumulate the supplies you will need.
If you go to the craft store, take your child with you. You might be able to get some ideas for the project by looking at the goodies that are available at a craft store.
Once you have all the things that you want to put on the lunch box cut out or bought—lay everything out on a piece of paper to see how it’s going to look and decide how you want to organize everything. When you think you have it just right, its time to start adhering the stuff to the lunch box. Clear wrapping tape is probably the best way to do this. Any store bought stickers can be stuck right to the lunch box.
