When it comes to making a scrapbook, the layout can take a lot of time and planning. The layout and design of your scrapbook page is one of the most important features in creating a scrapbook page. There is no set way to create a scrapbook page as each scrapbooker has their own style and personality but there are some scrapbook layout ideas and things to help make it easier to design a scrapbook page so you’ll want to come back and do it again. Selecting pictures and cropping

Part of the layout and design of your scrapbook page is selecting the right pictures and then cropping them down to the size you want and that will fit with your scrapbook page. The size of the picture will also depend on the size of your scrapbook as well. It’s always a good idea to keep copies of your pictures just in case you change your mind and decide to do something different. Cropping your pictures is also part of your layout. Your photos can be cropped into different sizes and shapes but remember to try and keep your page simple. And remember when cropping to cut less than you expect at first; then you can always go back and re-trim the edges as needed.

Find a color scheme

In the designing phase of your scrapbook page it always makes things easier if you can find a color scheme you like and then work everything around those colors. After you’ve done the picture selection and cropping you need to find a color scheme to work with. Look for similarities in background colors and colors that match clothing in pictures of the photos. If you find a good color selection it will accent and compliment the pictures you have chosen. Generally for the background page you want to choose one color and then use another color to matte your photos on. This will definitely give you a great layout and design look.

Add some decorative and personal touches

This is probably the most fun part about the layout and design of your scrapbook page. The reason it’s so fun is because you can really add your own personal touch during this part of your design. There are so many ideas out there to choose from; it will just depend on preference. Some ideas for decorative embellishments are stickers, die cuts, punches, or brads. Make sure that when you choose your embellishments that they compliment your page and the pictures you have chosen and don’t take away from the layout. If you have a birthday theme then look for decorative touches with balloons or confetti that help to tie into the party theme. You can even add your own personal touch by making your own decorations for the page. Another idea for embellishments is by simply adding a matte around the pictures. It is a simple yet elegant way to add some pizzazz to your page design.

Don’t forget to add some journaling

The finishing touch of your design is adding some journaling. Journaling is one of the most important parts of your scrapbook page because it often times describes in detail the story behind the picture. Here are some ideas on journaling for your scrapbook page:

•Song lyrics or nursery rhymes
•Stories

Names and dates
