All of us know that learning nursery rhymes are fun, but what many of us parents might not be aware of is that learning nursery rhymes can also have even better effects on our children. Many of us parents recite nursery rhymes to our children because it is something that our parents did with us, but what we might not know is that there are actually some really good benefits to teaching our children nursery rhyme activities. Perhaps the best thing about nursery rhyme activities is that these activities actually encourage proper brain development, coordination and much more in young children. And these things are essential if we want our children to develop properly in life.

Here are some of the ways that nursery rhyme activities encourage proper brain development, coordination, and more.

Number One:

One of the reasons that doing nursery rhyme activities with your children is good for your children is that they are going to be teaching your child a variety of skills. What skills they will be working on will depend on what nursery rhyme activities you are doing but regardless of the activity they will still help. If you are doing physical activities they will be developing their gross motor skills, such as running, jumping, balancing, etc. Other activities will require them to develop fine motor skills such as cutting and pasting, placing things in order, etc. These skills are going to actually help teach your child about coordination; fine and gross motor skills are required for any kind of coordination.

Number Two:

Another reason that doing nursery rhyme activities with your children is a good idea is that they will help your child memorize the nursery rhymes through repetition. Most nursery rhyme activities require you to say the nursery rhyme over and over again which will help your child memorize those words and if you are reading them from a piece of paper your child will soon learn to recognize certain words, sight words, and they will be ahead of their class once they get started in school.

Number Three:

One of the benefits to doing nursery rhyme activities with children is that nursery rhyme activities actually increase a child’s vocabulary. The reason for this is that there are many words in the nursery rhymes that children do not hear in everyday language, some of these words are nonsense words, but there are still a lot of words that nursery rhymes use that are regular words that we just don’t use in every day communication. So by learning these words the children are expanding their vocabulary.

Number Four:

Another way that nursery rhyme activities benefits children is that it helps kids figure out the English language. Basically nursery rhymes are going to teach children about the different types of speech patterns and other necessities that they need to learn in order to communicate. It is often said that English is one of the hardest languages to learn because of the rhythm of the English language, but the nursery rhymes will help to convey how the rhythm of the English language actually works. In fact you will also see nursery rhyme activities in classes that teach English to adults as well as kids.

All of these activities are designed to help your child develop both physically and mentally. But the main reason that nursery rhyme activities help your child develop both mentally and physically is because your child is actually having fun. It has actually been proven that if your child is having fun, regardless of what they are doing, and then they are actually developing both mentally and physically because they are using muscles, gaining coordination and trying new things.
