Nursery rhyme crafts are a great way to help a child learn how to read. You can make fast and simple nursery rhyme crafts by gathering a few items from around your house! Look around and you might surprise yourself with some fast and simple nursery rhyme crafts.

Have you ever thought that an old roll of toilet paper could be turned into a nursery rhyme craft? Well now you can grab that empty roll of toilet paper and turn it into a nursery rhyme character. You will need two or three empty toilet paper rolls, glue, scissors, glue, and markers. Draw little red riding hood or other nursery rhyme characters and glue them to the toilet paper rolls. You can now use the toilet paper characters as props when you read the nursery rhyme.

You can create nursery rhyme crafts from a paper bag, markers, and paper. Have your kids help with this one as it is a lot of fun for them to color. You will cut out pieces of paper that correspond to the nursery rhyme, such as a moon and a cow for Hey diddle, Diddle. Then color the cut out pieces and glue them to the brown paper bag. Now when you read the story, you have a puppet show to go along.

If you like doing puppet shows, you can do sock characters. Take an old, clean sock (or new sock if you prefer) and get some different pieces of fabric. Turn that old sock into Jack and Jill or the Old Woman in the Shoe. Be sure to let your imagination loose and get creative!

Mother Goose and her hat is a great way to let your children design their version of Mother Goose on paper. You will need construction paper, tissue paper, clue, pain, markers and any other supplies you can think of. Have your child draw Mother Goose and create a hat for her using tissue paper.

Baa, Baa Sheep is another fun nursery rhyme craft to make. Get some paper, cotton balls, paint, and markers. Tell your child to make sheep from the paper and add cotton balls to the sheep and paint a few cotton balls black to make them baa, baa black sheep.

Humpty Dumpty is always a beloved nursery rhyme to many people. You can re-create Humpty Dumpty with a plastic egg that you can decorate with some fabric and glue. Then get a brick and read the nursery rhyme and knock Humpty Dumpty off the wall using a water pistol when you get to that part in the nursery rhyme.

Paper finger puppets are also easy to make. You will need stiff paper, scissors, markers or crayons, and glue. Then you will cut the paper around the width of your finger and glue the ends together. You can then decorate the puppet to be your favorite nursery rhyme.
A fast and easy nursery rhyme craft is to use puff art painting. You will need to purchase straws, paint, and paper. The craft is to have children or adults paint by blowing paint through the straws. It’s a fun activity for children to pretend like they are the big bad wolf.

As you can see, small household items can be turned into a nursery rhyme craft. Be prepared to jump start your imagination and get creative. Just like the nursery rhymes we read that make our imaginations come to life, look at the characters and decide how you can make the nursery rhyme come to life. Nursery rhyme crafts are a great way for children to learn to read and a fun way for parents to interact with their child as they learn.
