Mother Goose crafts can be some of the simplest and most affordable crafts that you can ever create. The reason why this is so may be because the concepts behind Mother Goose rhymes are so simple; it may very well be difficult to think of how corresponding crafts could be over-complicated. Mother Goose crafts are by nature designed to be elementary and involve fundamental concepts that are simple and easy to understand.
Below you will find a list of some popular Mother Goose rhymes. Underneath each rhyme will be a few simple craft ideas that anyone should be able to do. Use your imagination to come up with even more activities using Mother Goose rhymes that you can do together as a family.
Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe
Have your kids make a shoe house just like the one in the rhyme. Have them do this by tracing and cutting out a shoe pattern or by using a tracing of their own shoe. If you would like, you can even have them lace the shoe. Decorate and color the shoe house to make it look like the one that they imagine might be used by the Old Lady with lots of children. Be sure to add windows and a front door!
Little Boy Blue, Little Bo-Peep, and Mary had a Little Lamb
Create your own lamb craft by cutting out a simple shape of a lamb from cardstock. Use cotton balls to cover the form. Leave the portion for the face uncovered or use glue-on eyes.
Make a lamb out of a paper plate. Cover the paper plate with cotton balls. Cut out ears and the features in a face and glue them to the plate. You can create a lamb of a different color by rubbing the cotton balls on some chalk or in the residue of pencil lead.
Use sponges and paint to draw lambs on a piece of colored paper (the while paint won’t show up as well on white paper.” The texture from the sponge mimics the texture that you might expect wool to have.
Use any of the previously mentioned methods for a lamb base (i.e. paper plate, card stock or card board) and cut out the shape of a lamb. Cover the surface of your base with popcorn (the edible kind) or with plastic packing peanuts. Create a whole herd of lambs by trying out each of these lamb craft techniques.
