Materials needed:
•1 large apple, make sure it is firm and not bruised
•small paring knife
•lemon juice
•6 pipe cleaners
•fabric scraps cut into 2.5 cm wide strips
•masking tape
•2 straight pins or whole cloves for the eyes
•fabric scraps cut large enough to make doll clothes
•glue
Directions:
•First thing that you need to do is to peel the apple, but when peeling the apple you are going to want to leave the stem and a circle of peel around the stem.
•Next you are going to want to choose the best side of the apple for the face
•Once you have chosen the best side you are going to want to carve a mouth, nose and eyes into the apple. If you want you can also carve a chin, cheeks, and ears. You want to make the cuts fairly deep, but you want to be careful that you don’t cut through the entire apple.
•Now pour some lemon juice into a bowl and soak your apple for one hour. This is done to prevent the apple from browning
•Now you need to tie a string onto your apple and hang it in a nice warm, dry place. This will be done for about 15 to 30 days depending on how long it takes your apple to dry
•Now you are going to want to make the doll’s body by bending the pipe cleaners together.
•First twist one pipe cleaner into a circle.
•Cut another pipe cleaner in two to make the arms and attach the arms to the top of the circle
•Next twist two pipe cleaners to make legs, making sure that the legs attach to the bottom of the circle
•Now cut a 2 ½ cm piece for the top of the circle to make the neck and attach it to the top of the circle
•Next wrap the 2 ½ cm wide strips around the pipe cleaners to make a padded body
•Wrap masking tape over the fabric but be sure not to wrap the neck
•Once the apple has finished drying you need to gently push it onto the neck of the pipe cleaners
•To finish the doll simply give it eyes and hair and dress it using fabric scraps
