Instead of using string to hang things on doorknobs or even on your Christmas tree, try taking some old metal hangers and fashioning them into whatever shape that you need. Wrap the wire around a small pipe to make a spiral shape. Use the metal spirals to create a decorative hanging piece. You can use these spirals to complement other metal pieces in your home. For example, you can add them to the star craft mentioned above by bunching spirals together where the star is fastened to the wall or door. Be creative with how you use those old hangers.
Recycling used cans
Tin cans can make great crafts. The first thing that you want to do before turning any can into something new, is to dull the edges of the can so that no one gets cut. After the can is safe to work with, you can make it into a candle holder or several decorative luminaries. Simply take a hammer and a nail and poke holes in the can to make a connect-the-dot type of pattern. When you put a candle into the can its light shines through the holes and makes the pattern that you punched into the can much more noticeable. You can make a holiday light display by saving your punched cans and displaying them along your walkway or drive way. Others are sure to appreciate your work and you will benefit from the glow that all of those twinkling lights.
Keep this in mind…
Of course there are many other ideas that you can use to incorporate the use of metal into your craft projects. The great thing about most household metals is that they can be manipulated to form a number of different things. So not only are you creating something beautiful for your home, but you are being environmentally responsible by recycling as well.
