Many country crafts use a lot of calico in their designs. Calico is a type of material that is rough, porous and much like burlap in its look. Calico is especially popular for country stitchery crafts. When you hear the word stitchery your thoughts may go to your grandma and her many hours spend sitting in her rocking chair stitching away. But not all stitchery is that boring. Stitchery is very much like playing connect the dots or coloring in a coloring book. With the proper instructions, anyone can create a custom stitched message or design. There are also a number of ways that you can spice up the traditional Calico material color. You can die the material in tea bags and use simple colored threads such as dark brown, green and red, to give it an old look and feel.
