Angel Bulletin Board

Perhaps you are a volunteer at your child’s school, work on your church’s newsletter or are responsible for the bulletin board at your office. Either way you may be faced with a dilemma on how to incorporate the Christmas holidays into your bulletin board display in a tasteful, appropriate and yet still educational way. In addition you must combine the function of the bulletin board with some skill in decorating. So if you are at a loss as to how to do your next Christmas bulletin board here are some guidelines to get you started-

• Remember who your viewing audience will be. A Christmas themed elementary school bulletin board will require something very different than the bulletin board in your church’s foyer. To further break it down an elementary school bulletin board will even be vastly different than one you would do at the high school. So be sure to know who your viewing audience will be and design a bulletin board that will grab their attention.

• Remember your message. The fun of setting up a bulletin board is in the decorating but if you go overboard with the decorating and fail to communicate your intended message the bulletin board fails to serve its purpose. Remember that you have a message to send to your viewers and then incorporate the decorating around that.

• Be sensitive to other’s beliefs. Not all people will view a Christmas bulletin board in the same light. Keep in mind that Christmas is not a religious holiday for many people and they may be offended by an overly religious message outside of church. On the other side keep in mind that those who participate in a religious celebration of Christmas may be offended by an overly secular decoration in an inappropriate way.

Now that you have some guidelines to get you started here are some great Christmas bulletin board ideas-

• Angel Bulletin board-This delightful bulletin board would cheerfully proclaim the Christmas message inside a church or other religious building

What you will need:

• Background of royal blue construction paper
• Border of thick gold ribbon
• Yellow construction or gold foil paper for large letters
• White construction or silver foil paper for smaller letters
• Black construction paper for musical notes
• Cotton, batting material or fabric for cloud
• For the Angels:
• White construction paper, rolled to form a cone shape about 6″ tall
• White construction paper for wings
• Light brown or yellow construction paper (2″ circle) for head
• Yellow pipe cleaners for halos
• Stapler
• Adhesive

Instructions for the project: Cover the background of the bulletin board in the royal blue construction paper. Attach the thick gold ribbon around the border. Using large letters cut from the yellow construction paper or gold foil letters attach the message, “Glory to God in the highest!” onto the right side of the board. On the left side of the board attach the batting or fabric as a cloud background for your angels. Under the cloud attach the smaller letter to read, “Unto us a Savior is born…” Too make the angels roll the white construction paper to form a cone shape about 6″ tall. Cut out wings out of the white construction paper and attach to the back of the cone. Cut out a circle (about 2 inches around) for the head and attach to the top of the cone. Fasten a halo out of the yellow pipe cleaner and attach to the back of the angel. You will need 3 completed angels for the bulletin board. When the angels are complete attach to the cloud staggering over the space. Finish by attaching black musical notes that were cut out of the black construction paper.
