Beeswax Sheet Book Candle

Beeswax is both an easy and affordable medium to work with. You can learn how to make elegant and lovely Beeswax candles very easily. But what if you are ready to move on to a more challenging project? There are lots of options for expanding your crafting skills when it comes to making Beeswax candle projects. These projects are a little more involved but can still be done by even an inexperienced crafter. Best of all they will look wonderful in your home or office or be a great gift for any gift giving occasion. Here are some specialty Beeswax candle projects-

What you will need:

• 3 sheets each of two different colors of Beeswax
• Sharp cutting knife

Instructions for the project:

Take three sheets each of two different colors of 8″ x 16″ beeswax and cut them down the middle so that you have 4″ x 16″ pieces. For this project you will be using three pieces of one color and two pieces of the other. Lay the piece of wax in front of you and lightly score the wax with your sharp cutting knife 3 inches from the edge. It is crucial that you do not cut all the way through the wax. It also important to get this first score accurately measured. After scoring gently fold the flap over. Using the first fold as a guide, lightly put another score onto the wax. After scoring the wax, carefully fold it back in the opposite direction as the first fold. Lay the folds flat and continue scoring and folding. Keep in mind that you should get five folds out of the sheet with a 1″ scrap piece. Continue with this process and score and fold five of the pieces.

Next you will place the wick. Take one of the folded pieces of the color that you are using three of. Carefully open it up in the middle so you have three sections on the right and three on the left. On the two-piece section, lay your primed wick and take one of the 1″ scrap pieces and place it over the wick, gently pressing in order to fully enclose the wick in wax. It is important to be careful opening and closing the folded pieces, or the folds may break apart. Carefully refold the section with the wick and gently press all five sections together. You should try to keep the top edge flat and even. Next you will take a 1/2″ scrap of wax and wrap it around the candle like a tie. While this is mostly decorative, it also helps hold the candle together. To even out the bottom of your candle heat up your melt pot on the stove, or put a piece of aluminum foil inside a frying pan. Gently place the candle onto the heat and let it sit for only a few seconds. The bottom will melt a bit which will even it out and hold the candle together. Now you are finished and can enjoy your candle!
