Nursery rhymes have been used in early childhood education for years because it provides young children with a fun and exciting way to learn about math, letters, opposites, position words and other important concepts. But there are other reasons that we should do nursery rhyme activities with our children, not just the fact that doing those activities with our children will help teach them certain concepts.
Here are some reasons why it is good to do nursery rhyme activities with your children.
Reason One:
One of the most important reasons for doing nursery rhyme activities with your children is that it can help them learn to read later on in life. The reason for this is that nursery rhyme activities encourage you to read to your child which in turn will show your child how enjoyable reading is. But nursery rhyme activities are also good to help children to read later on in life because they teach children about words that rhyme and silly words, basically through the sounds of the words your children will become enthralled with nursery rhymes.
Reason Two:
Another reason that doing nursery rhyme activities with your children is a good idea is that they will help your child memorize the nursery rhymes through repetition. Most nursery rhyme activities require you to say the nursery rhyme over and over again which will help your child memorize those words and if you are reading them from a piece of paper your child will soon learn to recognize certain words, sight words, and they will be ahead of their class once they get started in school.
Reason Three:
Although this reason has nothing to do with teaching things to our children it is probably the best reason about why it is good to do nursery rhyme activities with our children. The best reason is that it allows you to spend time with your children and by spending time with your children you are showing them that they are important to you. The problem in today’s world is that everything is so fast paced that spending time with our children has stopped becoming a priority. It used to be that every child knew their nursery rhymes before they went to school because their parents spent time teaching them to their kids but now many parents leave all the teaching up to other people. By doing nursery rhyme activities with your child you will be making them the most important aspect in your life rather than other things which in the long run will teach your children that people are important to each other.
Reason Four:
Another reason that doing nursery rhyme activities with your children is good for your children is that they are going to be teaching your child a variety of skills. What skills they will be working on will depend on what nursery rhyme activities you are doing but regardless of the activity they will still help. If you are doing physical activities they will be developing their gross motor skills, such as running, jumping, balancing, etc. Other activities will require them to develop fine motor skills such as cutting and pasting, placing things in order, etc.
Regardless of what nursery rhyme activities you are doing with your children it is always good to do them with your children because you will be helping your child grow and develop properly. Many activities require a variety of skills from your children and by doing these activities with your children you will be encouraging your child to develop these skills.
