Nursery rhyme activity parties are wonderful ways to teach your children and their friends necessary cognitive skills. Here are some great nursery rhyme activities you can use at your party.
Humpty Dumpty Wall Hanging
You will need:
· Glue
· Tree trunk cut from brown construction paper
· Tree body (leaves), cut from green construction paper
· Egg shaped body cut from white or cream construction paper
· Black markers
· Clothes for Humpty cut from colorful construction paper
· Wiggle eyes
· Bumblebees from the craft store
· Re-write of the poem stated and printed on white paper
To assemble Humpty Dumpty, cut out the trunk and body of the tree. Attach the tree trunk and body using glue. Cut out Humpty Dumpty and his clothes and attach to the tree using glue and also attach Humpty’s arms. Draw a mouth for Humpty Dumpty and also draw or attach wiggle eyes. Lastly, attach the bumblebee and write the poem on the tree trunk or attach it behind the tree trunk. This is a great activity for children to construct at a nursery rhyme party. The best part is, they can create their own Humpty Dumpty and take it home with them when the party is over.
Jack and Jill
Blindfold two children and call them “Jack” and “Jill”. In front of Jack and Jill, you will place buckets or bowls with different things in them such as chocolate coins or other small prizes. Jack and Jill need to hold hands when they walk toward the buckets. As they hold hands, they will use their feet and hands to find where the buckets are. Once they find a bucket, they will take one thing from each bucket.
Mother Goose Field Day
A Mother Goose Field day is one of the best nursery rhyme activity party ideas. It is basically a scavenger hunt. Use different pictures of Mother Goose and set them up all over the house or yard. Here are ideas for the different stations:
· Humpty Dumpty – have plastic eggs placed on a 2 x 4 and let the children shoot the egg off the wood with squirt guns.
· Little Jack Horner – Give each child a slice of pie to eat.
· Jack Be Nimble – Have children jump over zigzagged pillar candles.
· Hey Diddle, Diddle – Children pretend to milk a cow by milking a plastic glove that is filled with water and tied off at the top.
· Mistress Mary – Use old egg cartons to have children make flowers
· The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe – Let the children participate in a relay race wearing large sized shoes.
· Baa, Baa, Black Sheep – Have children race to fill three bags full of packing materials.
Jack Jump over the Candlestick
Use a kitchen roll holder and a paper flame stuck to a paper plate to make a candlestick. Have everyone line up and recite the nursery rhyme “Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick, Jack jump over the Candlestick.” The first child will run toward the candlestick and then they will jump over it. Measure the longest jump to see who the winner is.
Bo Peep has lost her Sheep
Draw pictures of sheep and cut them out. Hide the pictures all over the house and when the kids arrive at the party, send them out to search for the sheep. To add difficulty to the game, you can hide a single thimble and send everyone out to search for the thimble. The child that finds the thimble first will get the chance to hide it for the next time.
