There are lots of different crafts to make this Easter season. These creative crafts use materials that you may not even have thought of using. Whether you are looking for a classroom project, or something to do with your kids, these delightful crafts are lots of fun and best of all-easy to do!
- Clothespin Easter Bunny-These creative bunnies are truly delightful. It is important to remember that you will need the old fashion clothespins that are sometimes referred to as clothes pegs. These would make a delightful addition to any Easter basket.
You will need:
clothespins (or clothes pegs)
craft paint in white, blue, and yellow for a boy bunny; white and pink for a girl bunny
3-1/2″ white pipe cleaner or chenille stem
For a girl bunny, small pieces of craft fun foam, felt or construction paper in white, pink and orange
craft glue
Directions for the project: The first step is to paint the entire clothespin in a base coat of white. For the boy bunny, you will paint the upper half yellow, and the legs blue, leaving the head and feet white. You should apply a second coat of white to head and feet. For the girl bunny, apply a second coat of white all over. For either bunny: apply facial features, using markers, paint markers or paint (using a fine tipped brush). The eyes are black, inverted commas, with a small dot of white at the bottom. Paint a small pink heart for the nose, with a wiggly line of pink whiskers on either side. The mouth is a thin black line in an elongated “w” shape. Finish the your rabbit by cutting out ears, bow tie (if it’s a boy) and carrot from fun foam, felt or construction paper. You can then use the scraps to make clothes for your girl bunny. The ears are two pieces, the white tear drop shape of the main ear, and a smaller piece of pink in the same shape glued on top. Once you have these assembled, glue to the top of the rabbit’s head. Cut a thin triangular shape to make the carrot. Remember that this is so small it is little more than a sliver! Glue to either hand or to the body area, before gluing down one hand to “hold” it. If you add it to the body area, finish off by painting on a few green leaves to top the carrot. The bunny’s perky bow tie can be painted on or cut, from whatever material you choose to use. Either way, shape the bow tie in a very tiny hourglass shape. If gluing, attach at the neckline with craft glue or hot glue. Cut a length of pipe cleaner to make the arms (approx. 3.5 inches) and bend to fit before gluing in place at the back of the neck.
- Paint Brush Bunnies-Who would ever have thought that plain old household paint brushes make such cute Easter bunnies?
You will need:
2 inch paint brushes with wooden handles
white craft paint
Google eyes
plastic scoop (i.e. recycled kool-aid or small laundry detergent scoop)
scraps of felt or craft fun foam in red and light blue
ribbon
ribbon roses or other small floral decoration
tiny pink pom pom
2 small brown or tan pom poms
artificial animal whiskers, string…or pull a few bristles from the paint brushes before you start this project!
Instructions for the project: Begin by painting the brushes(even the bristles)with white paint. Let dry and repeat if the coverage is a little thin. Use paint or a permanent marker to make a broken line (a line broken by spaces) down the center of the handle. Carefully paint the inside of the bunny’s ear on either side of the painted center line. Use pink paint for the girl bunny’s ears and blue for the boy bunny. Assemble the bunny’s face on the metal part of the brush, above the bristles. First, glue whiskers in the middle, followed by the tiny pink pompom. Under the pink nose, glue on the two brown or tan pom poms. Cut a small oval from red felt or fun foam, and glue on beneath the brown or tan pom poms. For the girl bunny, glue on a bow and a small ribbon rose, just below the tongue. Next, glue on the google eyes, where the metal meets the wooden handle. For the girl, add another small bow just below the ears. Make the boy bunny as you did the girl, but leave off the bows and roses. Instead, take a piece of square felt and cut a triangle out of two opposite sides to make a bow tie. Glue the bow tie under the tongue. For the boy’s hat, cut a plastic scoop in half and cover it with two coats of light blue paint. When the paint is dry, glue the hat above the eyes.
