It’s always fun to decorate your home for a holiday or season. If you enjoy making crafts, or, if yo don’t have a lot of money to spend on Easter decorations for your home, the following are some crafts that make perfect Easter décor.
Easter Door Hanging
If you like painting and wood crafts, a door hanging is the perfect craft for you.
Materials
- 1/4″ Pre-cut wood of your choice in Easter shapes
- Fast acting adhesive, such as a hot glue gun, or epoxy
- Sandpaper
- Acrylic paints in your choice of country colors Note: pastels are best, depending on your design
- Fine black liner pen for details, white liner pen for lettering
- Fabric scraps, bows and accents of your choice
- Antiquing medium of your choice (optional)
- Raffia, dyed or painted green, yarn or similar material for carrot tops, ifapplicable
- Varnish
Instructions
- If using patterns, trace onto wood, then cut out and sand. Or, you can purchase pre-cut wood pieces.
- Paint project.
- Allow pieces to dry thoroughly.
- If desired, once paint has dried, sand along all edges and lightly along all other surfaces to achieve an aged appearance.
- Add details with a fine black pen and use white pen for lettering. Suggested messages include, “Everybunny is Welcome,” “Happy Spring” and “Happy Easter.”
- Tie raffia or yarn through holes for hanging
- Varnish the entire project and allow sufficient drying time. Add another coat of varnish to seal if you use an antique finish.
Egg Shell Picture Frames
Save your dyed Easter egg shell fragments and use them to make a beautiful Easter or Spring-themed picture frame.
Materials
- Easter egg shells
- Glue
- Plain craft picture frame, or cardboard cut like a frame
Instructions
- Crush the Easter egg shells into small pieces. However, be careful not to crush them into tiny piny pieces as that will cause the colors to blend together.
- Spread glue over the frame.
- Working in sections, glue the egg shells onto the cardboard or paper to create a picture frame.
This craft idea also works well for mosaic pictures, cards or magnets.
Easter Centerpiece
This table decoration is made primarily from sugar-coated fruit. It is a great, festive centerpiece for Easter dinner.
Materials
- Six pounds of various fresh fruit
- Apple jelly
- Water
- Superfine sugar
- Newspaper
- Spring flowers, artificial or fresh, depending on how long you plan to display it
- Pastry brushes
- Flat basket or spring or Easter-themed platter
Instructions
- Cover your work area with newspaper to keep your work surface clean and provide for easy clean-up.
- Wash the fruit and lay it on the newspaper to dry.
- Mix one cup of apple jelly and one cup of water, then, using a pastry brush, paint each piece of fruit with the apple jelly and water mixture.
- Sprinkle superfine sugar all over the moistened fruit.
- Allow the fruit dry, then arrange the mound of fruit on a platter or flat basket. Arrange the flowers, such as daffodils and lilacs, with the fruit.
