Albert Einstein is perhaps the most famous scientist in history. His name and his contributions to the world of science and physics are well-known throughout the world; thus, he will never be forgotten. His theories are studied in almost every school and university in the world and many people view him as one of the most intelligent people ever to walk the earth.
1. Sailing
Einstein had his quirks and there are many much lesser known things about him such as the fact that sailing was one of his favorite pastimes; he is said to have enjoyed it because it was the sport that demanded the least energy. He liked working and was very dedicated to it, but when he went home for the day, he wanted to be done. He didn’t like games that required a lot of thinking and shunned that kind of entertainment. It is for this reason that he hated the game Scrabble.
2. Walking Without Socks
One of Einstein’s favorite things was to walk around without wearing socks. He felt that the big toe always just put a hole in the sock, so there was really no point in wearing them in the first place.
3. Poor Speller
Although his mind was very keen and able to figure out some of the most complicated and difficult questions of man, Einstein was a very poor speller. He learned English as a second language and spoke it fluently, but was never able to write very well in English.
4. Montreal Pip Smokers Club
Einstein was also known for his pipe and the fact that he was always smoking something. He was a member of the Montréal Pipe Smokers Club and said that the pipe helped him stay calm and retain his objectivity in difficult situations.
5. Marriage
Marriage was something that was very difficult for Einstein. He believed that marriages were dangerous and that it was an attempt to make something last longer than it should have in the first place by nature. He was infamous as a husband and had a reputation for falling in love with someone else right after taking vows to be with another woman. This was something that he didn’t really view as a problem though as he thought that it was more interesting to have a variety of women to live with and love.
6. House Cat
Einstein was very fond of animals and kept a house cat. Oddly enough, his cat had a tendency to get depressed whenever there was rain outside. Einstein was observed talking to his cat and telling it that he knew what was wrong but didn’t know how to turn it off.
7. Despised Science Fiction
Einstein despised science fiction and he didn’t mince words when he expressed his distaste for it. He once said that anyone who claimed to have seen a UFO should just keep it to themselves and never say anything to anyone else about it. He didn’t want to know about what the future had in store and was too concerned with the present to worry about things to come. He said that he didn’t have time to worry about the future and that it would be real soon enough anyway.
8. Enthralled By The Compass
Einstein was a curious child and was very interested in the compass that his father showed him when he was sick and in bed at the young age of five. He was enthralled that the needle always pointed in the same direction no matter which way he turned. Many people assume that this was one of the first inspiring moments for Einstein.
9. Swiss Federal Polytechnical School
When Einstein was 17, he applied for an early admission to the Swill Federal Polytechnical School but failed his entrance exam. Of course, he passed the math and science sections with flying colors, but didn’t do well on the history, languages and geography parts.
10. Strong Personality
Einstein had a very strong personality and actually didn’t get along very well with his oldest son, Hans. Hans was angry at his father for leaving his mother after winning the Nobel Prize and some money and accused him of leaving his mother out of the financial picture.
