- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2007This old, pre-Elmo Sesame Street picturebook dictionary is absolutely wonderful... One of the best educational tools my two-year old has encountered. It has the typical, old-school Sesame Street creativity, complexity, intelligence and wit... and all the OLD characters we love from the 1970s-era edition of the show. (Yay, Ernie, Bert and Grover!!)
It's be nice if CTV would reissue this book... It's much better than the multi-volume Big Bird set and the Elmo-oriented editions that came out afterwards. Anyway, if you get a chance to pick this one up, your family will love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2014I used to own this book as a child back in 1980-something. I loved it so much. It has wonderful illustrations and is very useful to little ones who are learning to read. I ordered three of these books in total. --One for my sister, one for myself and another for a friend of mine who just had her first child. Although these books are used, they have been kept very well. You will really be happy that you purchased this product.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2011This book is the first thing I purchased for our baby, who will join us in March. I received a copy in 1980 and it was my very favorite book as a child. My mom still has my original edition, which has been reinforced many times over with duct tape. As a previous reviewer mentioned, I also think it was the secret to my academic and professional success. I was reading by age two and think this book definitely helped pique my fascination with learning. I was so thrilled to find it still in print and see that it hasn't changed in 30-plus years (a good thing, in my opinion).
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2006This is one of the better books that has so much in it that I can read it every night (many times) and still see new things. I can read it with my 18 month old (she loves Elmo, Ernie and Cookie) and my 3 year old (who loves the information from the book). My 3 year old will actually 'read' it to his sister while I am doing other things. The pictures are great and it is classic Sesame Street. i will note that the images and text is similar to the encyclopedia set from the 80's (which I also recommend), but that's ok. I didn't have the complete set anyway.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2016Excellent book! Took me right back to when I had the exact one. Of all the books I had as a child, this is the one I remember vividly. My son has been enjoying it as well, and I just hope in time it will a great learning tool for him. Between the many entries and the pictures, this is one that is well worth the price, and has held up over time with zero changes. I highly recommend this to anyone with young children.

My cousin and I grew up reading this book together, and loved it. The pictures are well done and easily explain things to children. If you're looking for Elmo, look somewhere else. This one features his predecessor Grover (who I personally prefer, being a child of the early 80s).
- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2014Love love love this book. I've been reading the one I had from my childhood to my 2 year old and it's the only book she likes to read! She really retains so much more seeing the words and making the associations with the imagery. Plus it's shorter than a book, meaning we can retain her attention for alot longer
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2014This is a great book for kids! It is full of words that as adults we take for granted but are helpful to explain. It can be read a few pages at a time and the grand kids can focus in on one letter at a time.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the version i was expecting. average quality print and binding.
this is the Indian edition where some of the character names are changed- Bert is called Bharat and cookie monster is called biskut badshah! the paper quality is average, and smells like a cheap text book. the spine was damaged and pages had creases and bends from the binding.
i ordered for the original 1980s version with the red cover as seen in the image in amazon.. but what i received was different. (see images)
if you are looking for a cheaper version of this dictionary then get this book. if youre looking for the original version with the better print and binding and original character names, then get the hardcover.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful illustrations. very big book.
This book is so beautiful. I read it to my two little girls (3 & 5 years old) while imitating the voices of the characters and they love it. The most magical thing isn't that it's a dictionary, it's the incredible drawings - each page is a work of art! I have to admit the cover is misleading because there are no drawings of elmo. But for me it matters not the quality of this book is top notch. It's actually hard to find products now a days with so much dedication and love put into them anymore.
