Halloween is one of the best holidays on the calendar. Who doesn’t love Halloween? You get to dress up, hang out with friends, and go trick or treating. Some of my best memories are trick or treating in cool comic book hero costumes that my mom made out of stuff we had around the house. I can remember wanting so desperately to be Spiderman that my mother actually tried to build a web slinger that attached to my hands. It didn’t work very well, but as I think back on it all these years latter I loved those Halloweens. Maybe you have a favorite Halloween memory that is similar to this one.
Then you also got to go to Halloween parties, which are some of the best parties around. Maybe you have gone to other people’Halloween parties, or you have been throwing your own for years, but want some new ideas for things to do at the party. There are lots of fun activities for people of all ages at Halloween parties. Kids always love Halloween, because it is so imaginative. Teens and adults can appreciate it as a time to meet together in social gatherings, and to watch younger children experience the magic of the holiday.
When planning a Halloween party and the games that will be played at your party, consider the crowd that you will have at the party. Young children are only able to play certain games, and their attention span is usually not very long. You will need to plan accordingly if you have such youngsters at the party. Think of games that are fast-paced and not too difficult in terms of mental or physical ability. Teens like group games, and adults generally like more cerebral games that are laid back. So think it through carefully, and before the party, decide on games that will be liked by everyone. You might want to have several different games going on at once so that people can go from one to the next or so that children have something fun to do.
Here are some great games that will entertain everyone at your next party:
An old favorite is bobbing for apples. You have probably tried this game, but if you haven’t here are some basic instructions for how to set it up. You will need a large basin of cool water (it gets really interesting if the water is ice cold) and a number of small or medium sized apples. Fill the basin with water and put the apples in it. Then have the players try to bite and lift the apples out of the water with only their mouths. This game can be very fun with teams.
Another great one is a pumpkin relay. This is done by either placing a small pumpkin under the chin, or on top of the head and then running between set points and exchanging the pumpkin. This is a great team game and should get the crowd really going.
A favorite of many Halloween party goers involves several lengths of thread that each team must try to thread pumpkin seeds on. The team with the most pumpkin seeds on the end of the thread by the end of the competition is the winner.
There are lots of other great games that you will be able to play with almost any group of Halloween party goers. Remember that creativity is the key to a great Halloween party.
