Try a cake that is as patriotic as the American Flag. This is because it looks just like the American Flag! Following are the simple instructions and a link so you can check out what it looks like finished.
You will need a vanilla cake mix (home made, or package is fine), whichever kind you like best, and all the ingredients. The cake should be baked in a 9X13 pan.
When the cake is completely cooled, it is time to top it with whipped cream. The fluffy kind works really well. It is good to have this nice and thick.
You will need 2 pints of strawberries all cut in half and 1 and 1/3 cups of blueberries. Simply place the blue berries in the top left corner, like the stars on the flag, and use the strawberries to make the stripes of red and white.
This is a cool fun treat that everyone will love. The main thing to remember is that this cake needs to be kept cool. So refrigeration is important, or at least the use of a cooler until it is time to eat.

Another special July 4th dessert is fruit topped chocolate pie. This is easy and very special. You get chocolate pie, however the fruit makes it special. Here are the instructions.
You will need a standard piecrust from the grocery store. This can be just about any kind you would like with a chocolate pie. You only need a bottom; these pies do not have a top.
It will also require a tub of whipped cream and some fresh strawberries for the top.
1 and 1/3 cups of heavy cream
2 level tablespoons of granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
1 stick of softened unsalted butter
Some cooking chocolate, which is broken into small chunks
½ cup of cold milk about: This varies because it may not take that much to blend the chocolate.
Start with placing the heavy cream, sugar and salt in a pan and bring to a boil. Then remove from heat; add butter and chocolate. When this all melts, allow the mixture to cool a bit. While it is cooling, slowly add bits of the milk. This is only until the mixture is smooth and shiny. If it is necessary to add a little milk, it is just fine.
Put this mixture into the pastry shell, and smooth it out. Then let this pie cool for about 1-2 hours in the refrigerator. When it is time to serve this special dessert up, place some whipped cream on the top, then garnish it with fresh strawberries and blueberries if you want. This brings amazing flavor and color to your 4th of July party.
