Crabbed the river on Sunday 5/16. Ran 20 topless traps baited with chicken necks but added chunks of menhaden to kick it up a notch. Working the falling tide from 9-11 and water was 65 degrees. The crab pots were back so I had a feeling crabbing has improved. Was able to catch 10 small crabs with the biggest was 5". Most were males and there very rusty. Blue Crab Festival Palatka, Florida Who would have thought a slimy little crustacean could cause all this hoopla? With crabs boiling, music bopping and libations flowing, Palatka's Blue Crab Festival has established itself as a bona fide North Florida phenomenon. Always Memorial Day Weekend.

I'm heading to Ocean City - Assateague area for memorial day weekend and would like to put out a pot before heading to do activities for the day and to come back to some crab ready to steam for dinner.

Well thought I would try Old Lyme for a few hours on the incoming tide today. 10 shorts on 4 traps. I may wait another 2 weeks (use that time to get my "to do" list done in the yard ). What a beautiful day out there... a nice relaxing way to start Memorial Day weekend (even though I didn't come home with any keepers) Good luck to anyone going out this weekend and Happy Memorial Day to all!

Monday, my daughter decided she would supply the Memorial Day crabs, (finally, a pay back for all those years). She ordered large crabs (3 dozen @ $48/per dozen, 2 days in advance).
Orange beach / perdido Key blue crabs

We are heading for vacation in Orange beach , perdido Key next weekend for Memorial Day week . Every year we bring a trap , try to find some waters ways and drop trap .

Take SR-40 west to Ocala and then make your way to the Ocala National forest. In there you will find Lake George. It contians the highest population of blue crabs in all of florida. On memorial day weekend I will be in Palatka (just north of Ocala) for the Blue crab festival. They pull some GIANT crabs out of those lakes.
