The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), also known as the War of Independence, had its origins in the objections of many American colonists to the taxes imposed by Britain. After the boycotts known as the Boston Tea Party, the colonists formed the Continental Congress, which declared independence from the British King in July, 1776. War erupted soon afterwards.
