    I’ve heard it said that “LEGO is not a toy. It’s a way of life.” I know, I live with a LEGO maniac. What this really means is that I can not walk barefoot in my son’s room at night. Ouch, those little plastic pieces in the arch of my foot! If you’re wearing shoes, you can start your LEGO tour with these fun Internet sites.

    Welcome to greater Legopolis, and step into the world of the minifig (that's LEGO speak for small LEGO people: miniature figures). Everyone in Legopolis likes the Internet, of course, and their town has their own Internet service provider called (what else?) Legopolis.com. You'll find the usual assortment of commercial pages from local businesses such as Harry's Flowers (send virtual LEGO flowers to your friends) and the Legopolis Health and Fitness Club where the minifigs keep in shape. You can read the online edition of the Legopolis Times and meet some of the minifigs through their personal pages. Before you leave, be sure to create your own minifig (the link is on the first page). "On the Internet, no one knows you're a minifig."

    "The few, the proud, the plastic: LEGO Marines at their best." Mars Base is the forward staging base for the 137th Battalion of the Space Corps and consists of the Assault Team, Air Team, Recon Team, and Space Team. Blueprints for equipment are published as they become declassified (he he). I wonder if they have a recruiting office in Legopolis?

    Ole Kirk Christiansen, master carpenter of Billund, Denmark, started his business in 1932 manufacturing stepladders, ironing boards, and wooden toys. Two years later the company took on the name LEGO, which is formed from the Danish words "leg godt" (play well). The current LEGO stud-and-tube coupling system was invented and patented in 1958, making the models much sturdier. More than 300 million children have owned LEGO sets since their creation. Visit them on the Web to join the Surfers Club where you can build your own home page out of LEGO pieces. My advice, however, is to skip the online games, which where very slow to load.
