Candy topiaries make for great conversation starters and colorful centerpieces for just about any occasion. A candy topiary instantly adds interest and color to your table. The great thing about them is that you can make them yourself and that means that you get exactly what you want every time. You can apply the same basic principles of candy topiary making to fit just about any gathering and decorating occasion.

For a Wedding

Like most topiaries, wedding topiaries can be made to be edible or non-edible. Some ideas for incorporating an edible topiary into your wedding décor include decorating your topiaries with packaged butter mints or individually wrapped life savers. By simply using a hot glue gun to attach the candy inside of the wrapper onto the topiary, you have a decoration that your guests can admire for its visual appeal and use as an after dinner mint. If you are looking to achieve a specific look with your topiary, you may not have the option of having the candies all be edible. By taking the candies out of the wrappers, or by simply buying them in bulk, you can make a topiary to match just about anything. You can also alternate the colors on your topiary or make a pattern or make a monogram of the bride and groom’s initials. You can even find candies that match the colors of your bridesmaid dresses.

Holiday Topiaries

Topiaries are certainly not specific to any one time of the year. Fortunately for you, this means that you could very realistically come up with a creative topiary idea for every month of the year. Here are just a few suggestions to get you started:

If you stick to the red and green color scheme, it is hard to go wrong when you are choosing candy for your Christmas topiary. Choose treats that are either green or red or be more creative by incorporating blues and gold’s. To make an Easter topiary you could also attach plastic Easter eggs filled with treats to the topiary instead of attaching each treat individually and use pastel Easter plastic grass at the base of the topiary. Halloween topiaries can break a lot of the traditional rules for what a standard topiary is supposed to look like. You can cover your topiary with candy teeth, candy corns, or candied critters. You can paint the base black and use cotton balls or cotton candy to give it the look of being covered in spider’s webs.

Party Decorations

You can make any birthday party feel a lot more upscale by making a topiary for each table or a series of topiaries to decorate the buffet table. Use the birthday girl or boy’s favorite treats to cover the balls of the topiaries. You can even incorporate your topiary into a game by having the guests guess how many candies it took to cover the surface of the balls. The one whose guess comes closest to the actual number of candies used gets to take the topiary home with them. Miniature candy topiaries make great party favors for a bridal shower, baby shower or any other party that you may be throwing. Smaller versions of all the materials needed to make topiaries can be found either at your lawn and garden center or at a craft store.

You do not need a holiday or a social event to make these candy topiaries. You can simply make them for yourself as a way of dressing up your home or business. Candy topiaries are fun and can lighten the mood in a room. They are certainly attention-getters, as most people will want to take a closer look at what you have made. With relatively little effort you can make an elegant centerpiece that you are sure to enjoy.
