Would you like to create an impressive Facebook profile? As you already know, Facebook is one of the hottest social networking sites out there so if you haven’t already joined, you should consider joining as soon as possible. Here are some tips to help you make the most out of your Facebook experience:

Tip # 1 – Know what Facebook is
Before you sign up and build a profile, do you really know what Facebook is all about? You have probably heard how you can find your old pals on Facebook or you can use it to hook up with new people. Facebook is a social networking site which is quite different from Twitter and Blogger. Using Facebook, you can search for your friends, upload pictures, send emails, join discussion boards, start fan pages, and many other things. When you use Twitter, you are participating in a micro-blogging site. You cannot upload multiple photo albums, carry on long conversations with your friends, and find out where your friends are working and living. Twitter allows you to post a short message to “tweet” to your followers. It’s a great way to gain fast information from news media and companies, but as far as social interaction goes, it is lacking compared to Facebook.

Tip # 2 – What information are you comfortable sharing?
When you join the online world of social media, you will be putting some of your personal information out there. What information are you comfortable sharing? Do you really want your long lost pals to know where you live or work? You can always put this information on there as a way to reconnect with them, but as far as actually letting everyone in the social media community read this information, you should think twice. Facebook does have a privacy feature you can install to keep this information private and confidential. It’s the best way to protect your privacy and still interact with your friends. Your profile is where all of your personal information is going to show up so consider being a little vague if you don’t want everyone knowing every intimate detail about your life.

Tip # 3 – Your status and other information
Why are you joining Facebook? Are you trying to meet people or do you just want to reconnect with your friends. Facebook has a search feature so you can find all of your old friends through this feature. To help you find them, you can narrow down the search results to location, which is included in your Facebook profile. To help people find you, list some of the schools you have attended, places you have worked, and your current city. Your name will also make it easier for people to find you. Have you gotten married from the last time you talked to some of your old pals? Consider putting your maiden name in your profile page so people can quickly identify you. Then of course you can list your status so eligible bachelors and bachelorettes can meet you. Facebook has a few different options to choose from like “single, married, in a relationship, and it’s complicated” This is a fun and easy way to find other people that may want to date or just get together as friends. In your profile you can also select what you are looking for like “dating, men, women, friendship, etc.” This can also help Facebook match you up with some people that you may want to date or just some people to make friends with.

Tip # 4 – Your Favorites
One of the fun parts of the Facebook profile page is listing all of your favorites. There is an area where you can list all of your favorite hobbies, music, movies, interests, quotes, TV shows, Books, etc. This is fun information to share with others and it can help other people gain a greater understanding of who you really are.
